Interesting article on the BBC website re our two recent winners.
news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/gol...
It struck me as funny because you would more naturally have reversed who said what, Poulter fairly unassuming and Fisher full of ambition and clearly stating what he plans and expects to achieve.

Chilli. I think it's clear that we're the real deal and our next target is to get Monty on during the Ryder Cup.

Lion.

You seem to have a real issue with this guy.

Why? Because you don't like the way he dresses? Or that he has confidence in himself?

For a start you've had other tour pros on here saying it's tough the week after a win to maintain that. It has to be exhausting for these guys...

Secondly... Everyone and I mean everyone has an off day.

Lay off man. You're being overly critical. He's a brit... and a proud one... and we should be happy to support the man to win as much as possible on the other side of the pond.

Particularly since he's now doing what Lee Westwood and Nick Faldo do and spending time with junior golfers (at woburn I think it was last year round the Marquess course). And anyone who tries to up the standard and etiquette of the younger generation of golfers is deserving of our support and respect.

Well said johnnyo. I think he held a Junior event at Woburn this year too, after The Open "The Ian Poulter Junior Invitational" or something like that.

It does annoy me Goldie. And I can't understand the reasons why people think we should be attacking our sportsmen.

I like to place the blame at the doors of the press as they seem to be so negative about british sport but I also think that some of these more negative people should try to form their own opinions and base them upon something more solid. At the moment though I'm finding that this is very rarely the case.

I'm sorry to say though that I doubt that will ever be the case in this country.

And oops!

I mean this year of course... I'm just already thinking of 2009 as basically finished as I have so much leave to take and the weather is starting to make me think forwards to next season!

I hear what your saying and your right about the British mentality towards Sport especially the 'love the loser' attitude. Step forward frank Bruno, Jimmy White, Eddie the Eagle.

I'd guess there are some other countries that don't automatically like a sportsman because they are the same nationality.

Johnny... I wish I could say that I believed that.

I can't think of one country which treats it's top sportsmen in the way that we do.

Ok so they get a little bit of the negativity at times but very rarely to the extent that we seem to pile on them over here. It's unreal at times.

As for the love the loser attitude. There's nothing wrong with that. Why not make the guys trying to compete feel more confident and give them the support of the public. But not at the expense of the top guys.

We should be behind them all!
