Battle of the Belgians

Justine Henin will resume her career in January at the Brisbane International, as a warm up event to the Australian Open.

Kim Clijsters is also scheduled to play this event, so we might see the returners from retirement facing off for the first time.

Clijsters has already hit the ground running with the fairy tale victory at the US Open and in the space of 3 tournaments has caterpaulted herself back into the world rankings at #18.

It will be interesting to see if Henin can achieve a similar spectacular return to the tour, or whether it will be a more difficult road to regain former glory.

The tournament will also feature Ana Ivanovic, who will be trying to regain her form after the difficulties of 2009 and taking a break to try and get her game together.

It will be interesting to see if the Belgian rivalry starts from the outset of the new season.

'Hello Tetra - welcome back'

You're too kind smiley

'Bungler has clocked up a few in your absence but no doubt we shall see some pearls from you ere long'

There he is still bumbling along with that shanky backhand yikes. At least the forehand has stabilised a bit from last season’s glorious festival of errors. Mind you, you can't begrudge an old dog a few scraps can you? The real question is how many more lives has he left? He's already used 15; can't be too many more left in the pot.

I think Henin will start off with a flourish, some quick, resourceful wins, then maybe get to the semi's and have a bit of a nightmare, fitness a probable let down.

Kim, on the other hand, I think will be the opposite and finish strong, depends how she matches up to the determined Scissor Sisters.

If they meet head on, then I favour Kim, who has the advantage of match fitness, but Justine might just bring an "unknown" quality with her on her return, could be useful for the early matches.

Really, Jubbahey? After some hiccups earlier in her career, Justine was always the stronger of the two mentally. And if she's back working with Carlos Rodriguez and Gil Reyes, fitness won't be an issue for Justine.

Must say, even though she's been my favorite player for years, I'm not happy to see Justine back. If this comeback goes the way of Hingis's - not ending with cocaine, of course, but being a whimper rather than a roar - I'll be disappointed. I would have preferred to remember Juju as going out on top, but oh well.

When focusing on Clijsters/Henin, we forget that there are 2 more Belgians that can join the battle : Wicky and Flipkens ....

Belgium is becoming a tennis power nation!
