Why is David Beckham such a hero?

and who thinks a knighthood isn't to far away?

I was just musing which of these prizes the mandarins at the FA would rather win.

The 2010 World Cup trophy itself in South Africa or the World Cup bid for England in 2018.

Why is this relevant?

I'm sure they would have both given the chance

If it isn't relevant to you then why comment, Finn?

If as some people believe Capello is under pressure from the Football Association to give Beckham international exposure are they more concerned with winning the World Cup 2018 bid than winning the World Cup in South Africa?

I would suggest that anyone who thinks Beckham coming for 5/10 mins as a sub in a world cup qualifying campaign would increase the chances of England getting the world cup in 8 years time is a fool.

Not to mention the fact that Capellos jobs is dependant on him getting results not whether England win a world cup bid

Well of course Beckham coming on at the end of games makes no difference to Capello's job prospects. rthe games were safe and he was safe.

What is does is keep both the FA and Beckham PR machines ticking over and the cap count rising toward the record target that seems to be so important to both.

Beckham will be used more by the FA than Fabio Capello in South Africa.

Interestingly it looks like Beckham will be missing the friendly against Brazil, as LA secured a 2-2 draw in the away leg of their play-off semi, and should now reach the MLS Cup final - two days before the Brazil game.

If he doesn't play in that match, he can no longer break the caps record at next Summer's World Cup, even if he plays in every other friendly from now until then AND England reach the final.

What's happening at Galaxy? How come they couldn't sell out an MLS quarter final play off against their only local rivals in the 'superclassico' (sic!).

Tickets were on offer at a very reasonable ten quid a piece with a hotdog and soda thrown in for free. I know they haven't been filling the 27000 capacity Home Depot Discount Centre (or whatever they call it) for a while now but you'd think in a city with an urban population equivalent to London they'd manage a full house for the biggest domestic game for both of the city clubs in years.

It could have been due to the clash with re-runs of 'Hollywood Wives' on TV I suppose.

Or maybe they should make the hotdogs bigger for the second leg?

Or change the name of the team to "LA Super Galaxies", or the name of the competition to the Mega League Super Playoff Championship Bowl World Turbo Finals.

That's what the yanks usually try. I'm terrified thinking of what Stan Kroen-kee has in plan for Arsenal...

Absolute and total nonsense. When was the last time Beckham was used as an impact sub, if we accept the true meaning of impact? Well he hasn't. So eventually we get to the reason Capello brings on Beckham in games that have either already been won or have no meaning. Its about PR for England bidding for the next World Cup.
And its pathetic!

so 'Jedward' Beckham now doesn't want to beat Sir Peter SHilton's caps record. What a lot of guff! The guy changes his mind like the wind. He is not genuine at all. Too late trying to suck up to the American fans. Must be crying into his soda pop at missing another 'walk on' performance, and against Brazil. The suits at Lancaster gate must be beside themselves!
