New Stick

comment on the article

Hi there,

I need a new stick this season and I'm looking to spend around £100-130. I don't have a hockey shop nearby so in the past I've gone by reviews on websites like Barrington Sports then shopped around for the best price.

Unfortunately hardly any of the sticks on Barringtons at the moment seem to have reviews posted. So I was just wondering if anyone here has bought a decent stick in that price range that they would recommend. (I play in defence)

Cheers

I have a Grays GX6000 torque (£120 from Barringtons). Offers good control, has a nice pick-up when hitting the ball, and hasn't fallen apart when I've been stick-tackled. Quality bit of kit.

Everyone's been a massive help so thank you all very much... Even that Campo fella - first time I've had to delete comments from one of my articles smiley

Will be a couple of months before I buy so will definitely try a few before I make a decision - and I'll probably post and let those who are interested know what I settle for in the end.

I made my own:
1 metre of Homebase dido rail + B&Q burger flipper. Good, budget price. You'll need sellotape, though, which can bump up the cost by a whopping 20-25%.

Use part of a smashed-up banister as a stick.

The game requires no skill so I wouldn't worry about using ramshackle material.

as long as you have a decent glove then the stick quality is pretty irrelevant (within reason of course)

i have been workong with a ew guys'in the know' and we have managed to assert that the wearing of a decent glove can improve grip, control, and power by at least 40-47%.

not sure if you have considered wearing a glove, but i am currently developing some new gloves specific to hockey.
