So, the swap deal involving Savio has been done. Funny thing about this. It first surfaced in a brief one liner last Friday, on one media outlet, that I posted but no one else seem to have spotted, yet this is the one that turns out to be true.

Savio seems to have been the first of a string of players on whom we are taking a punt through the Italian connection. I hope some of them come off but I am not very optimistic: why are they coming here instead of making it in their existing clubs? I fear a measure of inadequacy. However, best recent deal by miles has been Ilunga coming initially on loan.

Savio In:

- £5m initial fee (over 3 years)
- £4m in add-ons (none activated)

Savio Out:

- £2m initial fee (over 3 years)
- £3m in add-ons (none activated)
- Manuel da Costa (£3m defender)
- 50% sell-on of any profit

Superb deal!

I very rarely make comments on this board, even though I read it avidly on a daily basis.

However, the Savio saga strikes me as a complete and utter farce.

I thought the "great" Nani was supposed to have worked with him before? What does this tell me about his judgement?

We are not in a financial position to have an expensive punt like this. If we had used the money wisely in the first place, and bought a replacement for Bellamy, we may have even got the coveted Europa Cup place last season.

Now we are saying it's a "great deal"?!?! Why - because we managed to offload a terrible purchase only 7 months after we bought him to much fanfare?

Or is it because we got another defender whose recent track record is "...endured a tough time last season having joined Fiorentina .... he made just one league appearance before being sent on a six-month loan......the switch failed to turn round his fortunes and he made just three appearances during his spell in Genoa."

Another great Nani spot? Here's hoping.

Canada - sorry don't remember seeing you post anything related to this deal last Friday, could be wrong, but just didn't see it?

When you get up in the morning how many times do you look in the mirror and say "I love you"? LOL...all I seem to see you do on here is say "I said so, I told you so blah, blah, blah"? (Yawn) Only the other day you really doubted anything like the Diamanti signing going through on another thread, then when it happens you're all over it.

Anyway back to the bit of business, good news to be honest, Savio just wasn't cutting it, need to get him out and cut our losses, this deal will only be of benefit to us if we sell someone on for some cash AND this guy does what he has NOT done and his previous two clubs, which is play games. Shame because you know that Savio will be a good player, one day, we just don't have the time or money.

Oh and JL will be happy, or will he ?

ok

It was just posted inZola because it seemed so odd. Even the rest of the rest of the media didn't grab at it. yet, so many of the other rumours that got huge coverage died. And I don't think I'm unique in doubting any other deals would materialize, although I don't remember doubting the Diamante thing specifically. I was probably, like so many on here, doubting any rumour, because you have to admit, we've had more than our fair share of duds.
One last thing in reponse to your rudeness. I'm sorry if I seem more observant than so many of you. I do no more than read the main rumour mill to see if we've actually done something--and you can always ignore me of course. I promise you I won't lose any sleep over it.

Let's hope this Da Costa can play full-back as well. Faubert is meant to be a right-sided midfielder and Spector isn't good enough at left-back if Ilunga isn't fit. Surely we've got to get another full-back in

Hi fellas, well what do you know, the great new hope for whufc is no Moore, (getit) and to be honest, i dont think duxburry will think much of Nanis excursion into club record £mills expenditure.
I thought at the time of purchase there was a problem due to the words of caution as to needing to blood savio gently and get him up to speed for the english game. For £9m?
Having seen him play a few times he's not at the races and best we got shot of.

Having lost the winger we so desperately need, what next? we are so stuck trying to go through the middle that without someone wide with good legs who can get to the bye-line and cross back into the box, we will be looking at the trap door for many a month until may 2010.

Da costa, well lets hope he can fit into the defence quickly. As comment above I agree, Faubert is no right back and it shows so badly, having watched him twice at home this season, his only smile came when he was crossing into spurs box as a midfielder would and even turned to the crowd waving his arms as if to say, "this is my game", not a happy hammers defender! Spencer is young and was at fault for the millwall goal but lets hope for improvement in time.

If we had any cash, (debatable), we should have grabbed that tall streak the spurs bought, english, playing for his country and an awkward handful thats going to upset the opposition and score goals, pretty fair CV if you've got a few £mill spare, once again harry raids his old club, but thats a diff. thread

Spencer? Millwall?

Huh?!

Jordan Spence is out on loan at Scunthorpe. As I said, the anti-Projecters are beyond stupid!
