This was certainly one of the poorest performances by a Villa team in recent years. Young had so much of the ball that it was a heaven-sent opportunity to shine. However; he displayed absolutely no vision as he drew three and four Wigan defenders to him and then hogged the ball. Surely a Premier Div player must know that at least one of his team-mates should be open when he has four opponents with him! When he did cross the ball it was simply dumped into the zone rather than directed with purpose. OK, except one.Gabby simply never got himself into the game; whether this was due to poor off the ball movement on his part or even worse distribution is a real problem for MON to decipher. One could continue with such a dismal report but it was certainly an horrendous start for a team with top six aspirations.

Petrov is a shockling bad choice for captain. We had no central midfield today with petrov cracking under the pressure of his new responsibilities in the team and delph going missing at times in the game, although he did show potential. Gabby picked up where he left of last season with his bad attitude and lack of genuine talent. We missed Barry so so much.
MON out! Wastes all his money on overpriced, British based players while we have that clown in defence called Cuellar (he is abysmal), and the donkey up front that is known as Heskey. Wigan deserved it, but I've never seen the Holte so quiet. Didn't help with all the police there sucking the life out of the game. MON's formation was awful; 2 in the centre of mid, neither can tackle to save their lives, Gabby is a headless chicken, which completely undermines having Heskey in there.
Certainly bit hard to swallow but its only match one but what isn't good is we have an incomplete squad at this point and we still vitally need a CB. we created chances but Gabby just weren't on it today. I don't think we'll get going till maybe mid-Sept and i also think it things don't go our way come derby day we're in for a rough time. MON will get it right we've never had the opening day go our way with the exception of last season. We need a commanding midfielder and a centre back ASAP man.
its scary, as a villa fan. Its so obvious we need a stronger presence in center midfield and defence. the leadership has been lost. Not to mention someone who can actually hold the ball. gabby and shorey had shockers. young overplayed everything.I hope this isnt signs of things to come, because we looked like the same team as last year when barry wasn't in the team. terrible. anyway I hope we can pick up those players. Delph didn't look too shabby
Moyes and O'Neill, these two "GREAT BRITISH MANAGERS"!!!- FOUND OUT today by superior foreign talent. Found out. Villa and Everton will be down, right down, fighting for scraps with the likes of Fulham and West Ham. Poor transfer records, poor managment decisions......down, right down!!!
well i guess that answers ur question about our team!not good enough

it is too simplistic just to blame the loss of Barry- we were overrun in midfield even when he was there. why? because you can't play 4-4-2 with 2 wingers like we do. If you analyse it, our success last year was with 4-5-1. when we signed Heskey it went wrong (not because of him). Nobody to put a foot in (Sidwell/Reo-Coker?) and teams waltz through the middle.Beye and Shorey as full backs- do me a favour! Also, we have been short of a centre back since last season- now we are short of 2! Davies and Cuellar are hopeless together as well. Finally, am I the only one who thinks Freidel's best days are way behind him? you look around and see keepers like Kirkland-even the Noses have got themselves a good keeper! As people have said, O'Neill has had a long time to sort this- and hasn't! Best (and it really is optimistic) I can see is 8th. That isn't just based on Saturday- it is a continuation of last year
