At the time of writing, Kim Clijsters leads Svetlana Kuznetsova 3-0 in the first set with one break of serve. How do people see this one going?

Oh, you most likely can, I kinda fell asleep in the last two years after Henin retired I'm afraid. As far as the WTA is concerned, at least.

Huge win but Svetlana not in great form. Kim going away at the end, looking very fit and fresh. Svetlana looking spent.

No disrespect but thats not Clijsters fault even if true.

This is not a lucky one off - with three top 20 scalps already in 3 matches.

Didnt see the match, hereford but it didnt look like a walkover from the scoreboard.

As you say huge win smiley

Duggie

The heat and humidity took a toll on both girls, and Svetlanas play was the first to succumb. Hereford is right in saying Kuzzy played quite poorly from the start (way to many UE's). But to be fair, Kim also played poorly by her standard, still having consistency problems with her serve.

She did however look wicked on the opponents serve and on her groundstrokes, looking uber-aggressive and sharp. I did pick up on a few issues with her defensive backhand though.

If she sorts her serve out then we may be in for a no.1 scalping ceremony tonight, I can see Safina getting some 'Williams' type jitters playing Kim.

Thanks Feisty - that gives a good picture.

I wasnt arguing with herefordu on content, but merely suggesting it behoves a top 10 player to play to their ranking - of course it doesnt happen much of the time and Kuzzy can be quite "mercurial".

Howeever to take out the world #6 in this succession of matches is no mean feat for a match light returner to the tour.

Looking forward to Safina who can get the collywobbles smiley

I would say it amazes me that a player can take a two-year break from the game and upon returning cruise through two competitive matches against seeded players.

But of course it isn't amazing, it's merely indicative of the standard of modern women's tennis. Navratilova can probably still do a job against most of these players.

Anyone see Clijsters vs Graf at A Centre Court Celebration? (I was lucky enough to be there) I don't like to be mean but I have to say that I've seen matches of far less quality among the current top ten.

Argie, it's not like she's been lying on the beach the last 6 months. She's been training, probably more than she did in the last part of her 'first' carreer.

So Kim has beaten a weakened opponent, and the masses jump for joy?
Though she played well,as i said before in my previous discussions she still plays like she did in the past, stay on the baseline, running from pillar to post returning every ball.
She has a whole lot riding on this tournament in order to announce herself,so am not surprised she fought as hard as she could to win because she knows her obituary will be written if she looses, but as we all know(except those who delude themselves)once she looses a match, then there goes her confidence.
I was surprised not to see anything new from kim's game, nothing, the service was normal, she hardly came to the net, so it is still the same old kim, soon to go back to having more children.
