From SSN...

16.44 AC Milan have told Chelsea their reported offer of 8million euros (6.75m) plus Claudio Pizarro in exchange for Andrea Pirlo is too low to consider.

still not sure if I want this deal to happen or not, but losing Pizarro is a plus I think- throw in Sheva too lol

pleased he's not coming. wouldnt have minded if he was a few years younger with some time to adjust to the EPL instead of being used to it when he's the best part of 35

As a Milan and Newcastle fan, this is only good bit of news ive heard in the last 6 months. I honestly expected him to go, Milan have just come out of a significant era with the changes at the club over the summer and like Kaka, Pirlo was a very important player of that era - arguably AS important - and i thought that maybe he would be looking for a change(sadly a decision i would have completely understood if im honest) but hes staying and im glad of it because in my opinion hes one of the best midfielders out there.
Looking forward to seeing Chelsea under Ancellotti :) Best of luck for the coming season <cheers>

We don't need Pirlo! We were doing him a favour anyway, so its his loss to choose to stay at AC Milan. Honestly, I'd rather we breathe life into Deco than have him (Pirlo). Deco is more potential IMO!

Right. we have done pathetic in our thoughts on transfers. I like Pirlo but why do we need him ? I was not pleased with Ballack's season of last. I think if we had swapped him we may have been closer, yet I don't think we can lose Ballack as his off the ball awareness is top notch. But we have Deco too. I dont think he had a bad season but he was injured. I really think he has potential this season. He is not a bad player. I think Ancelotti could get the good out of him. And people say we need attsckers ? No we don't. Kalou won't go to Arsenal I don't see us selling him to there of all places. Drogba signed a new deal. Sturridge has potential. Di Santo is a decent player (remember he is only out to Blackburn till' Jan), Anelka is a 10-15 goal a season man and Sheva who I think will stay another season. We don't need anyone else. Our midfield is packed. Our defence is packed. We are good to go.

Pirlo is a very good player, but in all honesty Chelsea didn't really need him as we have Lampard, Ballack, Essien, and Mikel. There is no way you'd be able to accommodate all five in one team....we'll struggle to accommodate all four as it stands. Ancelotti will just have to work with what he's got...it's not as if we have a lack of quality players...and all are good enough to adapt their game to suit Ancelotti's. It's the Goalkeepers i'm worried about.....I still don't really think Hilario has what it takes....and don't know enough about Turnbull to make a judgement....but can't help thinking we missed a huge opportunity by not signing Joe Hart from City. Am i the only person who thinks the guy is one of the best young keepers around, and definitely a future England no.1. .....but will have to wait and see what Turnbull is like.....he won't get that many chances....so he'll have to be top notch.

....factor in Deco, and Chelsea's interest in Pirlo seems all the more puzzling. Buying him would have made no sense at all...we already have one of the best midfields in the premiership....and as the saying goes 'too many cooks spoil the broth' ...Pirlo wouldn't necessarily have been a success either....and even Chelsea can ill afford to spend around 20million on a player who may have flopped badly....just like Shevchenko,Pizarro, and Muti - all players taken from Serie A......ok they're all strikers but you get my point.

I've been following this story from a bemused distance. All I can say is that it seems deeply strange a team packed with ageing solid defensive types should be chasing after another ageing defender. Why aren't they chasing Ashley Young or Ribery or some unheard-of flamboyant young talent? It's clearly what they need.

you may have been following it, but you have no idea what kind of player pirlo is. hes not even slightly defensive, he may play a deep role but it isnt a defensive one.

One of the rationals behind people having children is to have some one take care of them in their old age. With the same thought in mind chelsea would need those who would take us forward after we loose all the old timers in the future and like ants, such "prep" must begin now by recruiting young players but also maintaining those already in the fold such as Kalou and the like. This is how you invest for the future.
