Friends Provident Trophy Hampshire

Surely there has been an omission or typo? The ECB statement on the BBC makes no mention of the FPT. It states that there will be THREE domestic competitions:
i) The County Championship (unchanged)
ii) An enhanced 20:20 tournament
iii) A new Sunday competition - probably consisting of two innings per side of 20 overs each innings.

Surely there has to be a traditional one day competition? If not how can players be expected to play 50 over internationals if all they are playing domestically is first class and 20 over cricket?

The counties invented the one day and T20 formats, so maybe they're trying to set a new trend by uninventing one.

Seriously though, it does seem strange. I mean, I find the 50 over stuff a bit tedious but England still play it. This is almost tantamount to an admission that we don't care about ODIs any more.

No, the statement is correct. But the article on the in BBC and ECB does seem to hint of some at the FPT will be binned that a new sunday tournament will take its place early in the season. But I suppose the one good thing is that there won't be test matches played in Durham when it's absolutly freezing in May and that the premier form of cricket will be showcased in June, July and August, instead of having T20 and ODI's taking over at that time of the year

Im not a great 50 over fan, but its a useful middlepoint between the 2 extremes of first class and 20/20. Without it players that are 20/20 or first class specialists dont have a chance to gradually learn to adjust to the other form by first playing 50 overs.

Does this mean that Hampshire get to keep the cup?
