now lets calm down girls before somebody starts crying about whos going to come 5th and 6th and whos not and whos got more minor success than the other.
kyle walker only played 5 matches for sheffield united and paid £5 million for him. not bad business £1 million a match.

Greaves, i would say you were the perfect example of with age comes wisdom, but frankly your not.
Your squad is worth 200m in your own cluba eyes. Nobody else values them at that. Except you.
The last decade has nothing to do with anything, who cares if you were better than Everton last decade. You sound like a Liverpool fans who just rambles on about 5 champions league, nobody cares.
If your squad is worth 200mil then Everton should be twice that. Howard is better than Gomes, Baines better than Bale, Lescott better than Woodgate, King might have the edge on Yobo/Jagielka, you have a better RB, Cahill and Arteta outclass any of your CMs but your wingers might be better. Up front - Keane, Pav = average. Defoe = class, Bent = lol. Everton havent the strongest attack force but Yakubu and Jo are good. Which brings me onto another point, Everton had to play a midfielder up front half the season and still finished 3 places above you.
Well done Spurs make some money, have you ever considered how many other 'smaller clubs' e.g. Everton, Fulham, Wigan would spank you if they had your money. Your a joke of a club, with jokes for fans.

Well, it's all about opinions tom coleman and I would say the joke's on you. ok

I'm quite happy to back my football wisdom against yours anyday.

It is very relevant going by decades, as they give a good overview of a club.

Lots of teams can have one or two good seasons, it's the clubs that keep going year in year out that stand out.

To be fair to Everton, you are one of those clubs like Spurs and Villa.

Us 3 clubs are in the next batch after the 'big 4', because of our years of achievement.

Of course someone like City may jump above us all, but it'll take a while to up their trophy count and really be seen in the same class as a club.

Players are worth what people will buy and sell them at.

We sell from strength, hence the high value of our players.

I repeat our squad is worth over £200m. Of course we wouldn't sell them all at once, but if you look at the type of prices each individual would go for, their sum would equal over £200m.

So it seems I know more about football finances than you do. smiley

I repeat we have outperformed Everton over the last two decdes, and we have a higher revenue than Everton.

My opinion is we will outperform Everton again this coming decde. The years will tell if I'm right or wrong on that one. ok

What about the last five years?

I don't think this should really be a Spurs v Everton debate. To be honest, both a fine clubs and neither fall into my despised category of "new money" clubs. I've no issues with Spurs.

I think the debate (at least initially) focused on why Everton were a better fit for Naughton than Spurs, and why he's made a mistake. The main reason for me is that Everton are crying out for a right back of quality in their 1st XI, and Spurs are not. Spurs have two top quality players in that position, Everton have none. Given that both clubs are "big clubs" with a tradition of European football, and both have managers of high repute, then I would have thought the key issue for Naughton would have been the squad he was joining.

If both Hutton and Chimbonda are fully fit, I don't see Naughton playing. If both Hibbert and Neville are fully fit, I most certainly see Naughton playing.

Regular football is key, plus Everton's defence is one of the best in the league. I would have thought therefore that Naughton's progression as a player would best be served at Everton.

Nevertheless, provided Spurs finish below us once more, I wish him well winkeye

so far Naughton's played against Barcelona, Celtic, West Ham, Hull and helped us win a prestige friendly trophy

so it looks like so far a lot of Everton fans and other oppo fans were talking rubbish about how he won't play for spurs, and he's at a graveyard, etc

It is too early to gloat yet, so I won't.

but if Naughton does play a fair few games for us this season, i'll be looking forward to some of the oppo fans coming on our board and admitting their mistakes smiley

regarding the point that there's no need for Everton and Spurs to be arguing - couldn't agree more

I only post on our board, but when I see oppo fans saying this and that about the great club I follow, then I'm liable to put my 2 pennies worth in. (1 new pence in this new fangled money smiley

Re - why not 5 years comparisons?

5 years is fine for me

during that five years spurs have outperformed Everton overall IMHO

because we've won a trophy, so for me we outperformed you for that season, plus the two season we finished above you

making it 3-2 overall

we also outperformed you in Europe too ok

Decades tend to be a more reliable timeframe though and are a natural yardstick

which is why people talk of the 60s, 70s, etc

Ummm, Portsmouth won the FA Cup in the last 5 seasons, I really don't think you can say they've outperformed Arsenal, Everton and Villa as a result. If you want to talk about reliable yardsticks, I'd use the Premiership personally, and we broke into the top four. But I guess each club will use whichever yardstick best suits them, so we're unlikely to get anywhere on that basis.

I'll happily admit I'm wrong if Naughton is the established first choice right-back for Spurs this season. Absolutely. But I'm basing my judgment on the facts known to me at this time. Hutton and Chimbonda are top quality international right backs, so when both are fully fit, I think Naughton will be on the bench. That's my opinion based on those facts. Everton's biggest squad weakness is at right back, we're in desperate need of quality there. So it's hardly an unfair opinion to suggest that if it's regular football Naughton wants, then Everton would be the better choice.

Oh, and please don't use the words "prestige" and "friendly trophy" in the same sentence, that really is clutching at straws of comfort. Nice to win the trophy, but I wouldn't get carried away!

HI exiled smiley

I'll use the words 'prestige' and 'friendly trophy' in the same sentence if I want, because that's what it was

Certain friendlies like the Pecae Cup, Wembley Cup, Asia Trophy are prestige friendlies

Other friendlies like Spurs v Bournemouth aren't - except for Bournemouth etc possibly

Yep Pompey won the FA Cup that season, so outperformed us- but we outperformed them for the other 4 of the 5 seasons, so it's a 4-1 victory to us ok

RE Naughton - Oppo fans went on what they thought was the situation, but chances are they didn't understand it as well as Harry and Levy.

In fact I will guarantee the vast majority didn't understand it as well as Harry and Levy, and many were frankly talking absolute tripe, and showing why they're not the manager and chairman of a major club like Spurs

Kyle has already played as RM and RB cover, there's a good chance he can play at LB too.

It's a squad game -

him and walker cost us £8m?

Let's see how much the pair are worth in two years time

i'll back Levy's judgement on this

we turned Lennon from a £1m player to a £20m + player

Hudd from a sub £1m player to a £10m+ player

Carrick from a £2m player to an £18m player

I'll go with Levy, thanks ok

I thought the combined fee for both was £11 million but in any case, there's no doubting the potential in Naughton. If Glen Johnson is worth £17 million, then you've got yourself a good deal provided he plays and improves. I'm also certainly not going to claim to know more about football than Moyes or Redknapp, both obviously rate Naughton very highly and I'm sure for good reason.

We'll just have to disagree on friendlies. A prestigious friendly to me is a contradiction in terms. The real fun starts soon, and we'll soon see the lay of the land.

smiley exiled - yep we'll see how it goes

ATM I fancy Everton to have a better season than us because of our CB problems

but i don't make my predicitions till one game after the window closes, because it's only then I get a bit of a picture as to how Spurs will perform
