spellbindingDannyboy (U13808177) posted Jul 19, 2009 Westwood was unlucky on 15. His putts on 16 and 17 were hardly disappointing and did everything but go in and he just went for glory with his putt to win on the last! However he wouldnt have bettered 2 under for those playoff holes so Im not sure he could have won the playoff anyway!! As soon as Watson missed his putt to win the event was over. Great Open because of Tom and win or lose he has lifted us all.

Jollyoldtennis (U7545723) posted Jul 20, 2009 I'm sorry but the atmosphere at Turnberry for a last day at an Open was abysmal. Other than the standard cheering on the last hole there seemed no electricity on the course and on the 16th and 17th the crowd was the most sparse that I have seen for years in a major Championship. I'm sorry but great as he was Tom doesn't have the charisma of a Nicklaus, Palmer,Ballesteros- not his fault, just one of those things. As for Cink, another nice God fearing Yank but with no pulling power. Like him or loath him without Woods in the competition the Open didn't have it for me. Lets hope for normal service resumed at St Andrews. One final unrelated point- why does the public seem to have a love affair with Montgomery? Is there a more miserable, bad tempered git in Pro golf? Always finding an excuse, nitpicking with fellow pros and spectators alike - he makes Victor Meldrew seem positively happy.

bottlers (U14075566) posted Jul 20, 2009 I agree with jimboo about westwood and watson.Obviously i am most gutted about westwood because i stood to win £230.When he went 2 shots clear with that eagle you could sense the pressure starting to affect him as he started missing the fairways with his teeshots. He will never get a better chance of winning a major and he has not won for a long time now.He is 36 years old so should have been experienced enough to get the job done. I won't be putting any more money on him in majors.
