Premier League Manchester City
comment on the article

Manchester City can announce that Emmanuel Adebayor has passed a medical and signed a five-year contract.
The 25-year-old Togo international has joined the Blues for an undisclosed fee. He will wear the number 25 that he sported at Arsenal last season.

A crowd of around 300 Blues fans were at the City of Manchester Stadium to greet the striker whose was named African Player of the Year for 2008.

The player was hugely impressed by his reception.

“It made me feel really welcome and special and I can’t wait to play for City’s fans and show them what I can do,” he declared after completing the bulk of the paperwork.

“I was born to play football and that is what I want to do. I have come here to make history for this club and those supporters. It what the chairman and the manager told me that they want too and I can’t wait to get started.

After beginning his career in France at Metz, Emmanuel moved to Monaco from where he was signed by the Gunners. Once there he made 104 first team appearances and scored 46 goals. He was named African Player of the Year in 2008.

The 6’ 3” striker’s most productive season in the top flight came in 2007-08 when he notched 24 goals in 36 starts. He was being courted by Milan earlier in the season.

Blues boss Mark Hughes is delighted to have secured the services of yet another high class international star with his peak years still in front of him.

“Emmanuel has been one of the top forwards in the Premier League since he arrived from France and we are delighted he has agreed to come and join us,” he declared.

“Along with the other signings we have made in the last two windows he will greatly enhance our ability to compete with the top sides.

“His arrival is another clear indication that we are determined to augment the players we have here with the best of international talent.

“He adds vital balance and power to our attack. He has everything a top forward needs. He is versatile, powerful, quick and agile on the ball. I am looking forward to working with him as are the rest of the staff. He will definitely add a new dimension to our play. I have been a great admirer for a long time.”

Adebayor will now head out to South Africa to join his new teammates.

Good signing...hmmm...Adebayor had one good season, and Arsenal couldnt wait to get rid of him in this transfer window. He will suffer the Arsenal syndrome, where every player who has left has been poor afterwards...Overmaars, Petit, Anelka, Aliadiere, etc

Adebayor must have been convinced that he stands more chance of winning the Champions League at MC than if he stayed at Arsenal. Unfortunately Arsenal just don't quite seem to have the resources to pack out their squad with enough top draw players to stay the distance. Chelsea seem to be standing still if not going backwards with Abramovich seemingly tiring of splashing the cash, MU are going through a transition having lost two of their best players in Ronaldo and Tevez and have ageing stars they rely on too heavily in Scholes and Giggs and Liverpool still rely too heavily on Gerrard and Torres.
Personally I would not be surprised to see either one of them drop out of the top 4 next season.
MC getting into the top four depends entirely on quickly the new players gel and how Hughes manages the inevitable conflicts that will arise when top quality players are left on the bench.
Their defence is still a concern however it looks like the game plan is attack is the best form of defence and they simply intend to score more goals than the opposition.

Even with a lack of players capable of, y'know, stopping the other team scoring, City are looking strong for next season and I'd even make them marginal favourites for that coveted fifth place spot.

I'm sorry, have City fans not looked at Adebayors stats. The man had half a good season where he scored thirty goals - his despicable collapse in the second half cost us the title that year. He then claims to be as good as Henry and demands 80k a week, and then disappears for another season. The man is a disgrace - I was desperate to sell him last summer and thought we'd missed the boat on a £20 mill plus deal. Thank god for the blue mancs.
You've just bought the most overrated, offside, goal shy, lazy player I've ever seen at Arsenal, and if he feels the fans pushed him out, I feel proud to be one of them. Good riddance to bad rubbish, hello to £18 mill profit, lol!!!

Usmanov, Mike Ashley, the Glazers and the like - their opinions on on the pitch matters are gospel now?

It is clear that we need players who are committed to any cause and in all respect, Adebayor lacked the commitment to Arsenal amd it was a grt decision to let him go, while more taleneted and higher profile players like Fabregas willingly play for the club, he was either injured, lazy, offside or causing problems in the chnging room.It was a grt decision to sell him, Hughes will see it when Adebayor stops scoring he stops, and that can be for three months even.then he will see that 25mil, was wasted.
