Stage 14 - Colmar to Besançon

Tour de France
comment on the article

A last chance to see the sprinters going wheel-to-wheel before the Alps, or will it be another day for a break to escape while the bunch takes it easy?

With Verbier tomorrow AG2R's Rinaldo Nocentini will want to enjoy what may be his penultimate day in yellow this year. Last time a stage finished in Besançon, Lance Armstrong won it.

Today though, could we see Mark Cavendish surpass Barry Hoban's British record of nine stage victories and possibly reclaim the green jersey, or will he be thwarted by the might of Thor Hushovd?

Lend me your lovely thoughts. Live text from 1130 BST, and live commentary online from 1500 with BBC Radio 5 live's team of Simon Brotherton and Graham Jones.

TBH that shouldn't have been a penalty. Cav didn't change his line throughout the sprint, his teammate stayed the same distance away from him throughout the sprint, and the gap would've widened if he'd barged over. It was more case of the barriers getting nearer to Cav, closing the gap Hushovd's line. He didn't look like he would've quite made it past either, and a rider doesn't have to open up a gap for another rider to take.....

Cav has been cheated. He kept his racing line. When you look at the aerial footage you can see that the road narrows and the barriers come inwards and it was that which blocked Thor not cavendish.

Fair cop, Cav's racing line should have been away from the barrier especially when he knew another cyclist was finishing strongly to his inside, he clearly obstructed Hushovd. However i do not feel he was cheating he was reckless.

Having watched it several times it's clear that it was the barrier that caused the problem. If Hushovd wins Green because of this then it'll be a hollow victory and he should be ashamed of himself.

He had a gripe at Cav on the line, yesterday he had a gripe on the line for a guy sprinting who wasn't contesting the Green but took a point off him. This moaner will get the jersey, no problem.

Think we've set a record this year with 29 riders within 5 minutes at the top of the GC at the end of week 2.

My question for tomorrow: how many riders will be within 5 minutes in the GC after tomorrow's stage? I'm going for 17 (assuming 1 of the top guys wins).

What do you think?

Cav got too greedy. He tried to get one of his team mate between him and Thor by slowing the norwegian down. Not fair play. Disqualification totally normal. bye bye green.

Shame about the relegation - C'est la vie, Cav. I think he said that all he wanted was to win in paris? I think he can, will, and what a ride he has done to get this far! He has a good few years to try for the green if that is what he wants.
