The Open - Day 3

The Open
comment on the article

A penny for the thoughts of Tiger Woods this morning, as for the first time in his career he finds himself watching from the sidelines as play continues at The Open ....

Woods, Colin Montgomerie and Ian Poulter were some of the more high-profile names who failed to make the cut as the field was reduced down to the serious contenders on Friday night.

So what are your thoughts, feelings, premonitions and predictions for day three? Our chaps on the course report "a damp start, brooding clouds and some sunshine later", which could well play a part in how things turn out.

news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/gol...

Will veteran Tom Watson still be in with a chance of claiming the Claret Jug for the sixth time at the end of the day? Will Padraig Harrington be inspired by the prospect of having his trophy taken away after two years? Or maybe Sergio Garcia will make up for his 2007 play-off heartache and finally land his first major?

Anything you want to throw into the cauldron of debate, this is where we want to hear it.... over to you!

I agree. Turnbury is too isolated. Have it inland in England

Seems like

Watson Goggin
Fisher Westwood
Goosen Furyk

Glad the 2 english lads are together, hopefully one of them will put a round together. Will be very hard for Goggin Playing with Watson tomorrow.

Its a strong group behind the english lads, I think a strong challenge will come from them 2.

But i guess the question is can Watson shoot 1 more round

I agree stevie,is the word infra-structure or sumit I'm only an hour up the road but if you've not got your own transport you'll need a quiet word with your bank manager straight after Loch Lomond

As much as I love Watson is him leading the open good for the game. Does golf have serious questions to answer if a 59 year old wins it's biggest prize?

Or is it just the open, this situation would never happen at the US open?

Could it be the brilliance of the architecture employed in the classic links courses that give any player a chance.

Lastly; are the current generation useless. If they faced the 1982 Tom Watson would he be about -12?

3 golf balls for the person who is able to tell me how many times Sam Torrance told us that Tom Watson was 59.

PS What a TWIT(ter) POULTER should feel today after a 14 over missed cut. What an absolute plonker! That photograph he twittered beside the leaderboard with his name at the top will be the only time he will ever be there.

Watson played great golf for any age really.
His putting was excellent and he held steady, it is a diabolical course I feel , that grass makes impossible to find the ball.
To do well you have to keep on the fairway and big drives dont really help if they dont stay on.
Its an interesting point that Watson could not repeat this on a regular course like Augusta etc.
I think he would not
