Top 6 HC Form

Othertype
comment on the article

Since we're entering the North American HC season I thought it would be useful to look at the points earned by the top 6 on HC's over the last 12 months.

These stats should give a good idea what kind of form to expect come Montreal when the big boys will be playing. (Del Potro and Roddick both play before Montreal though)

1.Murray- 7830
2.Nadal- 7375
3.Djokovic- 6280
4.Federer- 5760
5.Roddick- 4230
6.Del Potro- 3655

This shows how well Murray has been playing on the HC's despite the underperformance in Australia. He's been by far the best in masters/500's level. Time for him to take it to the enxt level.

I am surprised Djokovic has more points than Federer and not so far behind the top 2. Shows his form isn't quite as bad as some people think.

Murray: all the talk about him being aggressive misses the point. He can't do that on clay, and finds it extremely hard on grass, because his aggressive game demands a consistent bounce. Without it, flat hitting early is extremely hard.

Del Potro: lower bouncing hard courts aren't ideal for his game, although he'll still be dangerous. About time for him to produce in masters though, and he does have quite a lot of points to defend. Indianapolis would be good for him, an extremely slow hard court, but is he playing there or Hamburg?

Djoko: wake up, you douche.

Roddick: longshot contender, assuming he can avoid playing Fed. I wouldn't like his chances against Murray either on hard. However, he's a hard matchup for Djokovic. He might also be thinking another good 6 months and that 4th spot in the rankings is not beyond reach, especially the way Djoko has played most of the year.

Also the other top tenners are interesting....

Verdasco: form seems to be gradually trickling away since Madrid. Again probably better-suited for slower hard courts than most N American ones will provide, although Canada maybe offers some hope.

Tsonga: never done anything in the US, maybe about time he does. Cincinatti would be the ideal candidate, being the faster outdoors hard court anywhere.

Simon: pointspointspoints. Continue on current form and he'll not only drop out of the top 10, but also the top 20 if he's not careful.

Gonzo: quick courts not his thing at all, and probably he'll hibernate till Australia.

Roddick injured still of course, or at least (nd hopfully) recovering. Would he have beaten Fed in set 5 at Wimbledon? it was obvious from Fed's ace count in set 5 that Roddick could not quickly step out anymore.
It is becoming increasingly clear to me that Fed's biggest asset is his effortless movement and just not getting injured. It has allowed him to "get lucky" this year big time with Nadal's and perhaps now also Roddick's physical problems.

What? Fed will be lucky to make a RG semi-final again let a final. Under normal circumstances, Fed should have been scrapping for a wild card to enter this years USO.

Murray is without doubt one of the best HC players around but i'm one of those who think his confidence carried him more than anything else last year. He has the game but his temperament in slams still remains a question but still have him as one of the favourites for USO.

Time is running by fast and soon others will improve so he really needs to take the USO by the neck and go for a victory there.

"Fed should have been scrapping for a wild card to enter this years USO."

Yes, as five times champion that would be the case. doh

Anyone would think he hadn't made it past the semis at Flusing Meadow in his entire career! laugh

Thanks, Deku.

Following your post, news is coming in that A-Rod has pulled out of Indianapolis with that Wimbledon injury.

Here's hoping it doesn't affect his chances at USO - always a huge draw there, he'll be supernova after his tremendous performances at SW19.
