Second Test in Grenada

International Tests West Indies

Can this makeshift West Indies side avoid defeat against Bangladesh in the second Test, which is scheduled to begin in St Georges today?

Batting allrounder Ryan Hinds, who has been one of the leading runscorers at the domestic level, but who's so far failed to transfer that success to the Test level, has been drafted in to bolster a weak batting line-up. We could see a bowler-heavy side dispensing with the services of out-of-sorts Nikita Miller to accommodate Hinds. I also think veteran Tino Best, who's lost quite a bit of pace, should make way for promising youngster Nelon Pascal.

This would be my XI: Dale Richards, Omar Phillips, Travis Dowlin, Floyd Reifer, Ryan Hinds, Dave Bernard, Chadwick Walton, Darren Sammy, Ryan Austin, Kemar Roach, Nelon Pascal.

A win? Somehow, I doubt it....

The guys can't handle the spin of Shakib. The WI bowling in this side is okay, but the batting is poor.

Phillips has only played 19 first-class matches, and Walton has only played 11. Dowlin is a mediocre player who's been in and out of the one of the weakest sides in Caribbean domestic cricket (Guyana), and he averges less than 30 in first-class cricket. Reifer averaged under 10 in test cricket prior to this series.

Nearly all the Caribbean batsmen have joined the strike!

From the pre-match reports, it is reported that there is a damp shot on the pitch which already has some grass on it. The WI is batting first, so this could mean a really short game.

That's so true, dayne....

Richards is the only batsmen to make any serious runs, a quickfire 69, but Phillips, Reifer and Hinds all were out cheaply, and the WI are 130-4 now, with Dowlin and Bernard at the wicket.

This performance just proves that we can't play spin very well. Even out first choice players made Greame Swann look like Murali.

Let me edit it, and put Bernard back in.

Roach bowled well, taking a six-fer to bring the WI back into the game. The question now is, how much can the batsmen put on? They are clearly at sea agaisnt the bowling of spinners Shakib and Mahoudullah. Can they reach 350? Can Ryan Hinds finally translate domestic run-scoring form to the Test level?

Bangladesh can win, with the mentioned bowlers if our former captain also fired on.

Predictably, Hinds and Reifer are out cheaply, so advantage Bangladesh....
