England should enforce follow on

The Ashes England
comment on the article

England posted a disappointing 425 after a good opening stand,Andersson exploited the swing and took 4 specialist batsmen wickets.Aussies will now look to avoid a follow on,requiring another 69 runs to do so.Also the bowlers are fresh.By enforcing follow on England will let the Aussies know that they are eager to get a innings victory.Do not give Aussie batsmen any breathing space.They can be dangerous.Either way England should win this test.

eire,

true, good point as well but his record is pointless if he is out of form. his wickets today were a result of miss-timed pull shots if I'm not mistaken i.e. poor batting rather than good bowling (to a degree - the lure of a good looking shot is an excellent strategy...if he meant it!!)

Furthermore, if we take 20 wickets I feel it would be in spite of Broad and not because of his contribution.

I'm not a Broad hater but he could possibly do with sitting back and watching a game to see exactly how to apply pressure to an Australian side rather than a NZ side for example. You learn from the best and Harmy is on song at the minute and I am a fan of his ever since he had issues with form and went away and came back three times as good.

i should note I was a fan before that but it is a good sight when a bowler goes through what he did and emerged better for it.

dingo;

I am a big fan of Harmy and still dont understand why he was dropped. I think that he was a victem of the chop and change rule in English cricket at the time.

I am a fan of Broads as well and feel that he deserves his place in the team.

dingo;

I just wanted to add, although Broad may seem out of form, he was challenging the batsmen today and forced them into making mistakes which lead to his 2 wickets.
Fortune favours the brave and all that smiley

Eire,

I agree, I think he just got weasled out somewhere along the line or maybe he annoyed one of the selectors, who knows.

I'm a Broad fan too and I want to see him grow in to a threat - attitude wise and technique wise - that rivals our older bowlers.

You are right though the balance seems to be getting there and I think one batsman change maybe and we could settle down and persist with a side through thick and thin.

No probs dingo, no need to concede, thats just my opinion.

I do find it very hard to not have Harmy in the side as i feel that he is well worth a spot. I would sooner give him Onions spot for a test than Broads at the moment. He is the man that will give the Aussies some chin music and something to think about.
He was a victem of the chop and change system and now he may not get another chance because of the fear of the chop and change system.

eire,

In that context would you change a couple based on the wicket or stick with the same 11? Edgbaston won't do what Lords is doing.

Problem is on a batters track, do you get more batsmen or less? Based on getting more runs with more bats or relying on the batsmen to get the runs and having more bowlers to throw at them?

Is that chop and change?

I believe you pick for the conditions ie, the track. I dont consider that chop and change. What i call chop and change is, if a player has one bad match he is dumped. That is what i feel happened to Harmy.

If its a batters track in Edgebaston then i would make one change only. Harmy for Onions.

If its bowler friendly then i fear that i wouldnt make any changes.
