Congratulations to the Hamilton board, to get 2m for McCarthy is the deal of the summer in Scottish football so far.

good luck to james mccarthy he looked like a great player last season but the sad thing is £1.2mil rising to 3mil for a player who will leave wigan in a few years for at least double that anount. again the english premiership takes 1 of scotlands youngsters on the cheap because they know our clubs need all the money they can get!!

"Acutally not based on intial fee

Mcarthy 1.2M
Fergusgon 1.25M

you can also take into account that ferguson orginally left Rangers to Blackburn for 7.5M and is now 31 and approaching the end of his career, so 1.25M is good money for ferguson and to point out he wasnt our club captain."

Interesting that you want to tease out the comparison between Ferguson and McCarthy. Be my guest. I believe the deal taking 31 year old Barry Ferguson to Birmingham was £1.25m rising to £1.25m depending on appearances while McCarthy's deal is £1.2m rising to £3m depending on appearances, for an 18 year old internationalist who managed to avoid getting bevvied on international duty and sticking the V at his own fans.

So he hasnt been club captain since he walked back thru the door? Only reason he's not captain and not still at Rangers is because he shamed the country with his behaviour after the Holland game end of story.

I'd be very surprised if Accies didnt tie in some kind of Sell-On Clause like Mwell did with Faddy, they ended up getting there pay day a few yrs down the line when he trfd from Everton to Birmingham.

Imo I don't believe Wigan is the highest level he will ever play at tbh, not saying he'll play for one of the big four but there is teams in England bigger than Wigan.

Looks like a good bit of business for Accies, I've not seen much of the boy apart from T.V but if I am honest I haven't seen a lot from him to excite me, but then again snippets of Accies games are probably not the best way to judge him, I saw him twice in the flesh against us last season and again he looked ordinary, this was however only 2 games. Is he really as good as the press think he is?

IMO, aye he is a player worth all the hype. The way him & McArthur held our MF together last season with McArthur staying put n McCarthy attacking was class. Even big Easty steaming up n down the Left Wing aswell was phenomenal.

He is a good player well worth the 1.2 mil but he is still not as good as the media are making him out to be. Good to sell him on while he's in good form, if in the next season he went downhill and clubs lost interest in him they could be selling him on for less than he is worth so its a good bit of business

i dont think McCarthy is worth that kind of money yet. not doubting his is a good wee player. but he should have stayed where he was for another couple of seasons then moved on. All he's gonna do is sit on the bench down there and play in reserve league games untill he is ready.

and lets be fair, the quality in the prem league is far superior than the spl .

As for ferguson.. Rangers will prob see him back next year as he already proved he can't hack it down south.
