What shot should he have played?

I notice that KP is getting the most flack again.

So as a self proclaimed fan and a girl to boot my technical knowledge is probably not as good as some posters on here. I have a serious question which somebody might be able to answer

The ball KP recieved was a good delivery so what shot should he have played?

neilrealworld, I'm not sure whether you're in the real world at all! If every batsman could tell exactly what a ball was going to do the moment it left the hand, cricket wouldn't be much of a game. And criticising a side for not getting 3 or 4 hundreds in an innings? Honestly, how often is any side able to do that? Have you watched any test matches other than the Cardiff match? I'm afraid they aren't often like that!

None of this is to say that we shouldn't be six down after some weak batting, but KP's ball was a jaffa and he played the right shot to it.

Thought KP did little wrong with the ball that dismised although his batting was a bit all over the place for the 30 mins previous to that and he could off been out a couple of times. Pressure is on for him to deliver and I am sure he will in the series but we need big scores out of him. Felt sorry for Cook he played so well and Collingwood's dismissal was the only bad one IMO but after the heroics of Cardeiff I think we can forgive him. We need 450 plus because i still cant see us taking 20 wickets and I think they will fill their boots when they get to bat

What shot should KP have played? A slightly better forward defensive.

With his technique, he is always slightly vulnerable to a ball pitching just outside off and leaving him, because he goes a long way across then plays back striaght from off stump and sometimes with a slightly closed bat face. Puts him in a good position if the ball swings in, but a slightly compromised one if it leaves him.

You could try to improve his technique by not getting so far over then playing more toward mid off, but in doing that you'd reduce his efefctiveness with the attacking shots he whips through mid wicket from outside off stump.

Colly was maybe a bit hasty to go launching over the top, but I don't mind the shot he played. It's one of his attacking shots that he plays well, he got it wrong yesterday. I don't think deserves a slating for that. KP just got a very good ball. He should have played the shot he played to be honest. It seems that to some on here, bowlers can't just bowl good bowls, everything has to be a technical flaw in someones batting!

Most of the criticism of KP comes because of his apparent talent - he seems to have better hand-eye co-ordination and plays attacking shots according. Many a time he whips straightish balls through the legs side for runs. Lesser players play straight, with less chance of run scoring. He gets away with it because he sees and plays the ball better.
In this instance he tried to play a straight ball straight. It was a good ball, deviated at the last minute and took an edge. Good bowling. No criticism from me. It is when he gets himself out with outrageous shot selection that he drives me barmy.
I was most disappointed with Colly today. Bad shot, horrible dismissal. Cook and Prior need to look at their techniques, the Aussies seem to have figured them out. Cook plants his foot in front of his stumps then plays round it. Always an lbw candidate. Prior seems to not know how to play full in swinging balls. Needs to sort that out to be an effective number 6.

KP will always get out to outswinging good length balls. If that tit warne hadn't dropped him in final test in 2005 we would have lost the series.

KP certainly wasn't at fault but after that paddle-sweep he's always going to get the most stick for dismissals.

Of course, this is also in part because we know that if he stays at the crease he's probably going to pile on the runs, and we can't say that about anyone else with the same degree of certainty. As mentioned by nottsilkman, his fantastic coordination and vision is the reason for this, giving him the ability and confidence to risk attacking and even unorthodox shots...

As for Collingwood, after he showed his grit in a poor situation in Cardiff, he saw the stronger position here (and the part-time spinner bowling at him) as an opportunity to loosen up and get big runs. Unfortunately, one mistake and you're out, and he made that one mistake.

KP got a very good ball. Maybe he went a bit hard at it, but not much he could do. Colly played a poor shot. The diference is that Colly will admit that while KP will not. Obviously both should remain in the side, but KP looked like he was trying to get out before lunch and was quite fortunate to be there to face such a good ball!

The Ball that KP got was pretty good, and so he was 'got-out' by the bowler. What is anoying every England Supporter is that it looked like he was trying to get himself out playing rash shots to most of the previous deliveries.

to be honest i find it disturbin that the English media are constantly over and over again homing in on KP... and i think its damged the guy mentally... u see collingwood getting out to a really rash shot yesterday and the media dont bat an eyelid... imagine that was KP in collingwood's postition it would be all over the back pages and a bigger story than strauss's ton fifty... he is the ego but so what... hes also one of the worlds best batsman if not the best and certainly Englands best bat... i think we should get off his back and let him get on with it insted of making him think of his next move because we definatley wont get the best out of KP doing what we are doing!!
