Are you ready North Wales?

This Saturday the Ospreys will once again fly north to Prestatyn where they will present the case for rugby, in North Wales.

You Goggs should turn out in force with your banners to press your claims for a fifth region to be set up around there, it's likely that the TV will be there for a slot on the news. What better chance to show the South Bound WRU that you mean business?

One other thought, shouldn't the Scarlets be doing this though?

The Ospreys are here in North Wales as part of an agreement with Npower, as a sweetener for the Windfarms that are being placed of the North Wales shore. A number of the cubs in the area - Rhyl, Abergele,Colwyn Bay, Llandudno,Nant Conwy have been given invites for their junior sections to go along and watch a training session and be involved in coaching cinics with the players. There is also a 7 a side tournament for the senior teams. Some of the players are actually going to help on a 'beach clean' in the afternoon.
It is purely a PR exercise, on the part of their sponsors, as it was last year.

As for the Scarlets - Gogledd Cymru have asked the Scarlets to stay out of North Wales in order form them to concentrate on setting up a struture to play semi-pro within the next 2 years - This has come from Austin Thomas.

Gogledd Cymru are starting to put in plac a structure that will stand in years to come - local regional junior trials recently took place from Under 12 upwards. Something that hasn't really been concentrated on before.

While you all might think I'm a bit mad but won't the the real competition for NW fans will come from Sale Sharks.

With Manchester within reach on the train and by car, although it is a longish journey for some, any new team would have to compete with a top 4/6 GP side. From the people we meet at games and on our forums we do get a fair few coming over from that neck of the woods.....

Gordon1974

Yes it does, at the moment. But how would you feel if you had to go to another country in order to watch high class rugby?

Any enhancement of rugby in NW surely has to be the order of the future, starting as soon as poss.

WELSH_BULL_BOY

I think you're having a laugh, they're struggling to pay the wages, how could they afford to pay the fares to NW?

Scarletgog

Has it pretty correct as to why the O's are in NW, still doesn't answer the question as to why the Scarlets give NW a miss, maybe you could answer that?

I believe the last game played in Wrexham was the 05/06 season before Gareth took over for wales. The following year we were scheduled to play up there but then we had the HC run, and two matches postponed due to pitch conditions which lead to fixture congestion and the match being moved to Stradey park. So it has really only been the last two season when we have not had a fixture scheduled up there. I just feels like longer

on the plus side - good effort put in by the players on show for the kids - Ian Gough, Duncan Jones and Jerry Collins in particular spent ages signing autographs and having photos

The WRU should get a training camp for the national team up there at some point.

Get the local youngsters into rugby and get some help to the local clubs

thats really nice of the ospreys to go and spread the game up to north wales. are they planning on playing any friendlies in the bridgend area too?

They played a pre season friendly at maesteg last year and their a team played wales under 20s at aberavon.

We should do the same this year, not sure if we can play a game at the brewery field with the on going issues between samuel and the wru
