Earlier Reports had reported that Crouch had held talks, here it says he only flew up for talks this morning, even has what time he flew in.

England striker Peter Crouch flew into the north-east on Thursday morning to discuss a £12million switch to Sunderland.

The 28-year-old arrived at Newcastle International Airport at around 11.10am after the Black Cats finally agreed a fee with Portsmouth at around midnight.

He will hold talks with Steve Bruce, but has also been heavily linked with Fulham amid suggestions he will head for the London club on Friday.

The 6ft 7in frontman has reportedly become unsettled by the ongoing uncertainty off the pitch at Fratton Park and is ready to consider a move away just a year after joining the club from Liverpool in a transfer valued at up to £11million.

Tottenham are also understood to have an interest in him, with manager Harry Redknapp having worked with the player at both Southampton and Pompey.

Macclesfield-born Crouch scored 16 goals in 49 appearances for his club last season, and also played six times for England, finding the back of the net in World Cup qualifier victories over Ukraine and Andorra.

Bruce admitted his interest in the player yesterday, and said his capture would signal Sunderland's intent this season.

He said: "He is a player I have admired for a very long time, and I suppose a lot of other managers do exactly the same thing.

"We hope we can try to put something together because he would be the type of player, of course, that would signal our intention of the way we want to take the football club forward."

Bruce has already signed one striker this summer, England Under-21 international Fraizer Campbell, while Paraguay skipper Paulo da Silva has also completed a move to the Stadium of Light.

Your right about the RB also, Bardsley has shown promise but not often enough really.

Cheers ok

Another 6 or 7 players for me then, don't think our squad or team is good enough for only minor tinkering yet.

Bruce may have a RK WAG rant over this one, since if he has the same offer from Fulham I reckon we can forget this deal.

"In fact, she adores her “gorgeous” house in Surrey, to which she shifted after boyfriend of three years, Peter, was transferred from Liverpool to Portsmouth.

“To have our own home is lovely. It’s not stupidly massive and it’s really homely. Peter found it and was so excited. Then I saw it and fell in love with it instantly. I feel so happy there,” she said. (ANI)

Yes it's a long way, but, I like to think nowadays they dont have to walk!!

I think he's just seeing what is on offer, and who can blame him.

At least he had the good manners to come and listen to Bruce, unlike some others from last year I could mention.

Hope we get him though.

Pompey fan here, one thing I dont understand:
Why is crouch, a first choice striker at fratton park, linked/talking with a team that pompey finished above last year? Is it money? Club stability? or does he believe that Pompey's current fire sale has meant that Sunderland are more likely to win silverware in the future than Pompey? No offence to Sunderland but I dont understand his motives.

Looks like its between Sunderland and Fulham then as, sadly, I can't see him staying. Crouch will do well wherever he goes and I wish him luck.

Peter Crouch is a high class performer who would be a fantastic acquisition for a club such as Sunderland. Having been in the England set up on the international stage with an impressive goal ratio in recent years, Crouch is a player who opposition love to see the back of. But, I feel his career in terms f development and progression may have slightly stalled due to the amount of clubs he has played for.

For someone who is still only 28 years of age, it is staggering the amount of clubs he has played for. In my opinion, chopping and changing so frequently where you ply your trade in today's modern game could be seen as a major stumbling block. Portsmouth, Aston Villa, Norwich City, Southampton, Liverpool and Queens Park Rangers are just some of the clubs Crouch has played for.

People, following this route is not advisable. Quite frankly, it is ridiculas that as of yet he has not found a place that he can call home as he approaches another stage of his career. What he needs now, also to help him reclaim his place in Fabio Capello's squad, is to stay at a club to the end of his career, Unfortunately though, I cannot see this happening. I mean, Fulham, Manchester City, Blackburn, Everton?

I hope he finds success wherever he goes. He will be a big loss for Pompey, and the other million clubs he has played for.
