And we are off; the 2009 Open championship is finally with us after days of feverish gossip and giddiness we are finally seeing the worlds finest on the shores of the Ayrshire coast line.

So far Westwood is not feeling the affects of the Tiger/Ishikawa mêlée and Kwini’s man McDowell is so far doing ok. Best story of the day is the form of former champion and legend Tom watson, currently leading in the clubhouse on -5. Will he do a Norman and be in the final pairing on Sunday?

By the look of the Scoring so far the course seems to be open to a decent score, I hope -5 will be leading at the end of today’s play as that means Watsonis still on top. Goldwolf seems to think -8, we will have to wait and see. What do others think?

I just started this thread so we have a place to put down all our thoughts on the days play.

So come on guys lets here what you think?

A push is not defined in the Rules of Golf, we can't therefore assume a definition. Rule 14 applies, as does the definition of a stroke. The organising committee would never disqualift Tiger Woods unless he comitted a clear breach of the rules. If the stroke is brought to his attention, he will simply state that he made a fair stroke, and that will be the end of the matter. Player's at that level always get the benefit of the doubt, cases in point being, Monty, Rory McIllroy, Seve etc. So it's time to let the issue drop.

1917: Hit it, Padraig! He leaves his birdie putt short at 18, but he's in with a very respectable 69. He'll have bitten your hand off it you'd offered him that before the start of play.

Not at all, Padraig will be thinking like the other players who shot similar scores - should have done better. He would have seen the way the course was playing and the scores of all those before his tee off time of 2.21.

Why do people keep say playing links golf in strong winds and perhaps driving rain as the true test of golf. Being a fairly good golfer myself, I personally cannot think of anything more unattractive. Am I alone in thinking this?

Anyway I was just saying that if Tiger can hit puts without a backswing then so can everyone else, but we can't as we will get a penalty.

Anyway enjoy the golf everyone.
-----------------

I need to know if I've been breaking the rules for 20 years.......

So evertime I knock a ball in that is sat on the lip of the hole and don't take a backswing (that is at least an inch long, going by your examole), this is pushing?

I see it every week, amateurs and pros flick the ball in from cm's without drawing the putter backwatds? (just knock it with a forward motion) Are they breaking this rule?

No DQ for Tiger yet?

Typical Poulter,
the guy is a joke! He talks himself up before the Open that he has a feasible chance, so much so that I wager a few hard earned on him each way, and what does he do??
Blows up in spectacular fashion, only just managing to beat 'Sir' Nick Faldo who hasnt picked up a club in anger in months!
He's obviously talented to a point, only more so at self promotion than in actually playing the game of golf!!

Just watched the clip of tigers "push". I don't know who started that rumour but shame on you.

You were talking rubbish his club starts about 6 inches before the ball. It would have to have started almost touching the ball to be a push.

Re Ian Poulter. I think it's time for him to shut up and get playing golf. Am I the only one who's sick of him 'bigging himself up' and then seeing him fail? I like the guy, he brings colour to the game in more ways than one but he needs to let his clubs do the talking
