Wigan Confirm Scotland Signing

Premier League Wigan Athletic
comment on the article

Wigan Athletic have confirmed the signing of Swansea striker Jason Scotland on a two-year contract, but a visa must still be granted before the deal is complete.

After he was granted a work permit on wednesday and received clearance at a Football Association appeal hearing. Swansea agreed a fee between £2million and £3m for the Trinidad & Tobago forward.

Scotland has revealed he was always tempted by the top flight.
"I am so excited to get a chance in the Premier League," he said, "I want to show the manager he has done the right thing by bringing me here.

"I loved my time at Swansea and I think I served the club well. I want to thank all the supporters down there, but a new chapter in my career starts now."

He will be only Wigan's 5th striker along with Hugo Rodallega,Tomasz Cywka,Olivier Kapo and Marlon King,so Roberto Martinez may be looking to sign more. Reports suggest Wigan may make an approach for Crystal Palace striker Victor Moses.

Thoughts guys

It will be interesting to see how well he adapts, there are quite a few players who take to Premiership life remarkably well, as we saw when Wigan initially made it to the top flight (Bullard, De Zeeuw, Jason Roberts). However, there's plenty of players who never made it at all - Derby 2007-8 come to mind.

Time will tell, but seeing as though he made the step from League 1 to Championship with relative ease, perhaps he will do the same for us.

In 2006 Rangers became the first Scottish team to reach the knock out stages of the Champions League.

I think that pretty much describes the standard of the SPL. As for whether or not it's below the CCC, I think it's probably around the same standard. Maybe the CCC is slightly stronger.

Just proves what all Dundee United supporters knew, that Murdo MacLeod and his Hibs cronies at best didn't have a clue what they're talking about, at worst were trying to deny United an asset to weaken their team.

Their decision to refuse him a work permit based on his national team manager denying him some games because he refused to cut his deadlocks was a disgrace at the time, and clearly Dundee United could have advanced his career quicker and possibly got some money into Scottish football.

Murdo has always come across as a dour opinionated buffoon with no real love for the Scottish game (just constant criticism), and this proves it IMO.

Jason?
or the country?

It's got 55 million more people - is that better, or just more crowded?

Jason Scotland will be lucky to score 2 goals in the premiership. If wigan keep signing players like him they are going to get relegated.

Jordi Gomez is more than good enough to play in the Prem, but as for Scotland...im not too sure. I've seen him play for Swansea and although he scores bags full of goals, I just wonder if he has enough pace to live in the Premiership!

Scotland will score goals for you, but you will hate watching him play. It was only a few weeks into his second season with us that the fans actually started getting behind him. He's lazy, selfish, slow and has the first touch of a rhino, but at the end of the day the lad scores goals.
