Change is needed - Europe-America

Ryder Cup

Before, the Ryder Cup was contested between GB and USA. Then, because USA always won, it changed to EU and USA. Now I think another change is necessary because the EU has the (undeserved) advantage.
I propose an EU team and an American team including Canadians, Mexicans, Panama, South America and all.
Then the Americans would have a chance of winning.

Anorak time:
There are 18 Americans vs 17 Europeans in the worlds top 50.
Highest American is Woods(1), lowest is Love(50).
Highest Euro is Casey(3), lowest is Ollie Wilson(47).
My point being that things could hardly be more even, and therefore no change is necessary.
On that note I'm off to lunch.

Rossa78.. Having spent the last year out in South Dakota playing for a D1 college team I can safely say that we play ALOT more match play over here.. When there growing up or playing college matches all over America they never play match play unlike we would do here so "well-I-Never" is quite right in his statement... Interesting thread though smiley

If a top Israeli hit the circuit would he be available to play for Europe? As Israel play in the Euro championships at football, but is that just a political thing as no one in Asia really likes playing them.

Thats the point. Isreal and Poland are not considered part of mainland europe or the UK. As such they don't qualify. They are however part of the EU.

Thats as far as I know... At the moment none of the guys over there have ever qualified anyway so who know what would happen!

It may well be decided on the schengen zone or something...

googled it...

Europe (yoor'up) [key], 6th largest continent, c.4,000,000 sq mi (10,360,000 sq km) including adjacent islands (1992 est. pop. 512,000,000). It is actually a vast peninsula of the great Eurasian land mass. By convention, it is separated from Asia by the Urals and the Ural River in the east; by the Caspian Sea and the Caucasus in the southeast; and by the Black Sea, the Bosporus, the Sea of Marmara, and the Dardanelles in the south. The Mediterranean Sea and the Strait of Gibraltar separate it from Africa. Europe is washed in the north by the Arctic Ocean, and in the west by the Atlantic Ocean, with which the North Sea and the Baltic Sea are connected.

So according to that there are a vast number of countries included in Europe from a continental point of view. Including Turkey, Russia, Georgia and a lot of other places that are a bit further from what would traditionally be considered the case!

olympicdreams - didn't you start a thread on the Ryder Cup yesterday? If the intention of that wasn't to stimulate conversation regarding it then what was your intention? whistle

I think they should go the other way and make it GB & Ireland v the USA again.
I might actually care if we won then, Im pro Europe when it comes to trade etc but in terms of sport I have no interest whatsoever in cheering a Spaniard/Swede/Dane/German just because he plays on the European Tour (or in fact doesn't even do that anymore). I think its a bizarre concept started purely to keep interest in a very one sided event alive.
We would probably even give them a reasonable match now and again.
I'd guarantee that after years of playing in Europe the likes of Westwood and Clarke cant speak a work of French or Italian to communicate with their European "cousins". Its all about the TV money.....
