I was only kidding, belowtheburn. I don't come on the golfing boards to often but I'm always amused at how feisty it gets in comparison to the football boards which I frequent...well frequently. (On the ball,City!)

I'm typing this at my office on Bay and Wellesley. All the best indeed and enjoy the open.

As for Sandy - he just needs to put a sock in it methinks.

Lyle exhibiting all the sorts of foot in mouth qualities that will deny him any chances of leadership. The Ryder Cup is a team game – Lyle is on the outside peeing in.

The question which no-one seems to be addressing is exactly how large is Monty's manager? If Monty can hide behind him, this bloke's got to be absolutely enormous.

I'm not sure what Sandy's up to, but I'm beginning to get the impression there's a lot going on that we haven't heard about.

Monty is clearly a pompous git and I doubt many people actually like him. Sandy is probably just sick and tired of having to pretend to like monty and sadly for him this frustration has spilled over in the media.

Even after all this who would rather have a meal with or share a pint or two with?

For me it's Sandy by a mile, he seems a likeable guy unlike the quite frankly grumpy and most likely unfriendly monty.

mclarenm23 – I’d have to agree with you on all those points, including the pint. When Monty gives Lyle faint praise about his chances of becoming captain;

“Sandy's time is around now and he hasn't done it before so you'd have to put him as favourite" its transparent that he doesn’t think he’s up to it.

Unfortunately it’s not what you say in public but how you say it. Monty’s quote is a world apart from Lyle’s off hand remarks.

Ultimately who is the more likely to captain the winning Euro team?

Everyone including Lyle knew that his chance had gone by now. He's vented his frustration at obvious injustice, once or twice in a long career.

Monty behaves badly week in, week out. He is the only Scottish golfer that Scots want to see losing. The guy is a RC captain liability and was always going to be. For some reason, he's in favour with the Sunningdale/Wentworth clique and the committee. He's still a huge liability. And it's all on film for the Americans who'll love hating him.

If you fancy a meal with one of them you'd better take a crossword or something to pass the time. Monty, on the other hand, is very pleasant company off the course.

Who is more likely to lead a winning team? Given his track record - leadership on the course in the Ryder Cup, leadership of the GB&I team in the Seve Trophy, his commitment and loyalty to the European Tour, one would have to go with Monty.

Sandy has a record of adjusting the playing characteristics of his club during a round - and complaining when he was (quite rightly) reported for it.

(Rightly reported because if a player fails to report a transgression, s/he becomes complicit and is equally liable to penalty.
