Manchester City - A threat now?

It seems Manchester City have now signed Carlos Tevez and whether they sign Kolo Toure or John Terry is unknown.

Over the years, Manchester City have provided me with nothing but laughs and entertainment with 4-0 losses to Wigan, 1-0 loss to Stoke w/10 men etc.

Now that Manchester City have strong financial backing and are able to buy world class players, are they a threat to not only the top 4, but the top 3 as well?

Part of me would love to see Manchester City crumble and turned over at the likes of Stoke and Wolves etc, but then again, I would also welcome a change to the dominance of ourselves, Arsenal and Manchester United over the years.

Whether you like Manchester City or not, you would have to admit their attacking options are at least on par with the top 4.

Robinho, Ireland, Tevez, Santa Cruz, SWP, Bellamy are not exactly bad players. In fact, I would go as far as saying only Liverpool and perhaps Arsenal have better attacking options.

Whilst I do not rate Richard Dunne, it is inevitable they are trying to find some sort of replacement for him, and if they strengthen at the back, I see no reason why they cannot challenge for the top 4.

The question is, if they do: Who is going to fall out?

In my opinion Chelsea and Man United are too strong to fall out, and Gerrard and Torres are formidable and will turn over many defences for Liverpool and are solid in midfield. Arsenal have a talented squad and surely they won't drop out!

Please try to stick to the topic and this is a debate solely about Manchester City, WUMS go elsewhere.

i agree with you ,
In general developing some thing a product or football team requires a plan , which city is lacking since the new owners , you cant turn a team in year or two or 5 its takes long planning and has to start from the academy not just buying players where loyalty goes to the highest bidder-
If it works it will not be a success for City it means failure for the big four ,
The funny thing is they know that there are no plan actually there are nothing behind what city does that’s why neither Rafa or Ferge are worried

Arsenal conceded 37 whereas City conceded 50, Almunia was out for a couple of months so who knows? We might have conceded less if he was there all season. See what i'm getting at?

I also said that Walcott is equal to Robinho based on the second half of the season in which both players where just as bad as each other. Robinho went missing and Walcott failed to live up to the hype (too much hype from England and Arsenal fans in my opinion. Again, do you see what i'm getting at?

Melo hasn't gone to Juve yet and by the looks of it AW doesn't want to splash out 21m for him.

people are starting to get jelous of what kind of players man city are pulling in, the fact is if they bring a few good defenders in maybe lescott or terry then they will have a very good chance of reaching the top 4. good luck city

basically man city have got loads of money , then they buy great players but most of those great players need other great players around them so city basically need a new team to compete for any major honours.

City are a small team who think they have big plans for a successfull future. But the real problem is, they are buying lots of different players from lots of different clubs. Just because the players they are buying are very good doesnt mean that they will play well as a team. I think what Man. City will find when they put out their team of already developed players is that they do not understand any of each others game play as it was all different at their previous clubs and therefore fall apart.

Money is not what really matters these days in football as many people believe, but what really matters is team chemistry--something that Man. City will have none of !

All this misunderstanding on the pitch will cause frustration and probably training ground bust ups. Because of this not only will Man. City not be able to play as a team but they will also not have a want to play as a team.

Mark Hughes also has not spent his money wisely as he has bought far to many strikers. Carlos Tevez, Roque Santa Cruz, Robinho, Bellamy, SWP, Ireland and Adebayor can not all play!!! So I think Mark Hughes will find a little too many transfer requests coming in the post. He might also find some hidden agendas as well. And im sure he will come across some very dissapointed, sad, frustrated and even angry benches and reserve teams.

Also I dont think Man. City will have a strong enough defence. Sure Shay Given is a great goalkeeper but will the likes of Alex and Richard Dunne really do when put up against top strikers like Torres, Rooney, Drogba, Van Persie, Arteta and many other top atacking players. Mark Hughes will have to take a long hard look at his tactics as how is he meant to satisfy that many players with enough game time.

Also, Man. City should maybe think a bit wider in terms of where to put their money. They dont have to buy a hell of a lot of already developed players. They should do it the honourable footballing way by buying young players with potential for a small sum of money and train them up to become world class players. Or even invest in a new stadium or new and improved training facilities.

I think Man. City will completely fall apart this season. They may be lookin for a potential champions league spot but I dont even know if they will keep out of the Relegation places !!!!!
