iv just seen that Vieri has been on trial with Blackburn and impressed Sam Allardyce. Do Blackburn realy want Vieri?

If he's anything like the player that turned out for Fiorentina in the CL i wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, was an absolute donkey.

Would think you have enough fat lazy useless strikers.

rubbish, he's been terrible for years and he's not exactly going to be cheap even on PAYP.

looks like you're becoming the new (old) Bolton.

is that the bolton that consistently punched above their weight in the premier league? How upsetting for us.

I do think this one is a bit desperate.

Vieri three - maybe even two years ago- would have been a real coup, but he's 36 now and was without a club since Atalanta released him in March.

It really is a choice between Blackburn or retirement in this case.

I'm not having a dig at Blackburn, just making a general point- these are the type of signings that hold back young english footballers.

If there isn't a young talent in the youth sections at Blackburn, it would be worth finding a promising forward from the lower divisions and signing him, rather than giving Vieri one last pay-day.

To me that's better management- scouting an unknown- than trying to get one last hurrah out of the career of a big name fading star.

Because lets not kid ourselves, Allardyce turned his nose up at Michael Owen over doubts about his fitness, but Vieri is 7 years older than him, it's a strange one for me, really strange. The Vieri of 1996-2002 was a great striker, obviously, but it's not 2002 any more.

big sam (who i admire as a manager)says he needs to sign a striker who is a fox in the box r something like that but why on earth did he sell the only one he had in matt derbshire who in my book is gonna be a top top striker and play foe england

Just to back up my argument: These are Vieri's league stats from the last few years-

2008-2009 season Atalanta Played 9 games, Scored 2 goals

2007-2008 season Fiorentina Played 26 games, scored 6 goals

2006-2007 season Atalanta Played 7 games, scored 2 goals

2005-2006 season Monaco Played 7 games, scored 3 goals

2004-2005 season AC Milan Played 8 games scored 1 goal

So, over the last 5 seasons he's made 57 appearances for his clubs, and scored 14 goals.

That's an average of about eleven appearances a season, and he's averaging three goals a season.

Anyone still think it's a good move? erm

I always liked the guy but he's past it isn't he? actually sod it, get him. But he can't be our "new forward" to replace RSC.

Lippi still apparently thinks a lot of him, so he does have an outside chance of going to South Africa which has to be pretty good motivation for him. He was a really great player in his day, if he gets fit and Blackburn keep him on a pay per play basis then I don't see what they have to lose.

well we got 3million for derbyshire and were probably best off with the money because he was only making bench appearances. Besides, we have paul gallagher back from loan and i can see him being a suitable replacement
