Good work Sunderland & Newcastle.

An entire planet to play in, and you both plan to go to the same place.

Sums up why the North East clubs never win anything really.

The real reason that sunderland took priority is that they are the premier league team!

Im looking forward to seeing the banana boys get beat by scunthorpe, Barnsley and Cardiff. Those world class teams.

Would this have happened for Chelsea and Arsenal, I think not.

If you take all of the Tyne/Wear and North/South rivalry out of this thread and analyse what has happened: two British clubs have been banned from playing in Europe thirty miles apart. If Sunderland were playing in Manchester, would Newcastle be allowed to play in Preston? Of course they would.

This decision smacks of pure stereotyping of British football fans as yobs. I don't say it very often but in this case I feel sorry for the Toon. This decision is madness

That's not strictly true mate.
The authorities were more concerned about rival fans using the same Ferry's, trains and and the like.
The rubbish thing is 99.9% of Mackems and Geordies would have just had a good crack. But every team has there fair share of penis heads who would spoil it for everyone.

I don't know. This seems a bit of a farce. Newcastle announced the fixture but, unlike the other pre-season freindlies didnt make arrangements for ticket sales. In honesty I think it was set up to give us a "meaningful" fixture given the rest of the fodder that we've passed up as opponents. No offence. I also find it surprising that a long winded official statement was ready within hours of the FA's decision at a time when all other communications from the club have been non-existent.
