Harrington Wins Irish PGA

The Open
comment on the article

Padraig Harrington will have done his confidence and game the world of good with an exemplary display in winning the Irish PGA this afternoon in miserable weather. The seven shot victory over the massively difficult European Club should place him well for a challenge at a third Open in a row next week....
Whatever happens, having him in the mix will certainly make it a better tournament. Will he win? It will take an extraordinary effort but these are the situations that Harrington revels in....Bring on Turnberry!!

Not a lot of people will give Harrington credit for winning this tournament but that is understandable .....but credit must be given for the score he shot giving the length of the course .

You can't knock Harrington's preperation for the last two Opens...more of the same if it works!

I didn't know that he had exactly the same results in the Irish PGA then The Open , for the last 2 years - playoff win, win by 4 shots......win by 7 shots.......THE OPEN?

If Harrington can get his mind in the right place for next week he has a good chance (of making the cut).
And if he makes the cut,he can be a very dangerous player as we have seen before.

Padraig commented after his round - "I avoided three-putting this week. I just haven't been doing that this year. I can't afford to give up those shots and it was nice that my putting was right on track this week so that's the most pleasing thing from the week."

"Chipping was solid enough, I was happy with that. Long game was much poorer than it has been probably all year. It probably was at its worst this week and I'm hoping that it's just a blip this week"

"I still have got a little work to do on a few things and hopefully the next couple of days I'll have settled on something."

He sounds quietly satisfied..!!

Alot of golf fans believed Padraig would win The Open at Carnoustie in 2007 and he did.

No one expected him to win at Birkdale and follow that up with a USPGA.

He missed the cut down the road at Royal Troon 5 years ago, but with Padraig you can expect the unexpected.

Many golf fans believe it's Lee Westwood's turn to win a Major. He's playing as well as anyone.

Lee had a top 5 finish at Royal Troon 5 years ago which may or may not be an indicator for Turnberry.

Nick Price nearly won The Open at Royal Troon and then won at Turnberry in 1994.

Tom Watson won at Royal Troon and Turnberry.

It's Lee Westwood's Open to win or lose in my opinion, but if anyone stops him doing so, it wouldn't surprise me if it's Padraig.

ok
