Whelpdale out for 6 weeks after hernia operation and CMS flies back to england due to groin problem.

If Whelpdale misses the start of the season who would you like to see as the replacement ?

This also shows how badly we need another striker if the injury to CMS keeps occuring.

I do worry about CMS's injury, even though the club is obviously playing it down. They did that with Morgan's toe injury last season and by the time he played again, you'd have thought it had been amputated and another stitched on. sadface

Whelpdale injury doesn't concern me for 2 reasons:

1. We have plenty of options across midfield both in players and formation to cover it.
2. I don't think he would have started the first game anyway as I think other players are now ahead of him in the pecking order.

CMS injury on the other hand is a major problem. Put us out of our misery fergie and let us know who we are signing up top!

The news of whelpdale is a blow, although as the post above says we have plenty of other options. I disagree though that he isnt first choice based on his performances last season i think he deserves a starting place.

CMS injury is a worry, hopefully he'll be able fit enough to start the season. But cover in the striking position is needed.

We don't have that many options to cover Whelps' injury. It means we will have to play some-one out of position as I can't see Torres or Batt starting. I'm sure we'll cope but we arn't too strong down the right side.

I don't see why Whelps wouldn't be first team, we haven't looked to buy a replacement in that position so obviously DF is planning to use him.

Whelpdale would start Why wouldn't he?.

I can see Boyd being put there and Rowe going on the left.

I think the CMS injury is a major concern and highlights how short we are up front.

There is no way we can compete in the Championship with just two recognised strikers.

I know that Boyd or Rowe can play there but they are not naturals. We may well have got away with playing quality players out of position in L2 and L1 but we won't be able to get away with it at Championship level.

Fergie needs to act and quickly.

Many said the same last season MP, but we did better than ok. The main reason that I'm still being optimistic is the fact this squad never knows when it's beaten. As long as we maintain that mentality, we'll do reasonably well.

I just want the speculation to stop and the season to start, it's doing my head in now....need football and need it now!!!

Fergie keeps insisting that we have other options up front, but he is saying players like Batt is an option!! Batt, imo, is not even League Two standard player.

If we don't sign a decent forward to back-up/challenge the MacAttack, I think we will struggle.

Last season, the MacAttack were snuffed out quite easily by a decent defence. There will be a hell of a lot more decent defences this season compared to the last 2 seasons!

Come on Fergie, we need a forward as well as a central defender.
