I'm thinking maybe the short contracts are because they aren't actually DiMatteo's players in the sense that he scouted them and originally wanted to bring them here. So maybe we are only giving short contracts in case they don't end up in the manager's plans?

£175,000 is good and he's only 22. Only problem is, if he turns out to be a star we won't be able to hold on to him. If we get promoted let's hope he gets a better contract. Let's hope he does well for us.

I think we may have picked up the deal of the season for that price. I was impressed with what he showed last season. I'm bitterly disappointed we haven't got Menseguez though - I really rate him.

Beardedbaggie,
I agree that these 2 signings look like they'll come good for us, I was just suggesting that RDM may not feel the same way and could want to bring in some of his own replacements if things don't work out, so we don't want to be tethered to a larger contract.

the short contract is a gamble either way! If we don't go up and he's good - we've lost out - if he's good and wants to stay - good - and if roberto doenn't want him - well!
Who thinks the same?

Either way, if he gets a chance to play and does reasonably well, he's going to be worth at least £1-£2 million by the end of next season, and if we get promoted, then's the time to extend his contract, and another reasonable season in the PL will see his value go to at least £3 million. One thing Albion and JP are good at is getting players cheaply and adding value to their worth, outweighing by far all the lesser deals we do at this level, eg Slusarski.

Maybe there's emerging talent from within that they don't want to demotivate. Dan Ashworth reckons we've currently the best crop of kids the clubs ever had.....or at least for a number of years. It's a real incentive for these kids to see opportunities on the horizon knowing full well that if the new boys don't cut it, they'll be in with a shout to fill their boots at the end of the short contracting process.

Sounds like a decent plan to me.
