July Cup.

It's pretty much expected that after his memorable Stand win, Scenic Blast will take a power of beating today at Newmarket in the Cup. Accordingly, he goes into the race a warm favourite at about the 7-4 mark. If he lives up to his 09 form in Australia and Ascot, he should power over the top of them in the last furlong or so.
But even the best of them can get rolled. The other Aussie in the race, Takeover Target, despite his advanced years, appears to be in pretty good order. Having worked a couple of times with Scenic Blast with Morson up, the old bloke was only just shaded in both gallops. Janiak is of the opinion that the horse has fully recovered from his slight malady, and is full of himself. That being the case, and in view of the fact that he loves the English conditions, he seems great each way value at about 14-1.
As to whether Paco Boy can step back from the mile and be competitive in this class of sprint racing, only time can tell.
But I'm not as up to speed as the local punter, so I wish you all the best, especially if you climb on board one of the Australian horses.

Well done to Tom Queally bagging his 2nd G1 in consecutive big sprints.

I'm with you Groove, have to take you hat off to someone winning only his second G1. All too often, all we talk about are the deeds of folk like AOB, so mark one up for the little guy. cheers

Smart thinking by him going for home on her as quick as he did with the slow pace they went so bar the filly going everywhere he did well, with the slow pace might have been Scenic Blasts downfall who likes a strong pace to come off and was in no mans land and ran a poor race.

4 of the last 5 home were held-up, first 3 home were all up with the pace.

Actually with the exception of Paco Boy, the first 8 home raced in the first half of the field and the other 5 were held-up.

Art Connoisseur IMO should have done more off a slow pace (like in the Jubilee) and confirms himself as an Ascot specialist IMO.

The pace of the race meant that anything ridden from off the pace had no chance. The winner is a very talented filly but in terms of pure form this race must be treated with extreme caution,i cant remember a july cup run with such a lack of pace.I actually thought that Paco Boy ran a super race to finish fourth seeing as it was totally against his requirements over this trip.Still think the winner is better over a stiff 5 but today was her day and fair play to her.Guess who followed her off a cliff last season!steam

A point I made in my article, an article that it appears went largely ignored for some reason.
