Live - German Grand Prix

Formula One
comment on the article

Willkommen back Formula 1 fans, one and all.

The German Grand Prix zooms into view after a longer-than-usual break following Silverstone and, would you believe it, it's now the mid-way point of the season.

Does that mean it's make-or-break time for Red Bull's pairing of Sebastian Vettel and Mark Webber, who are hoping to chase down Brawn GP's runaway championship leader Jenson Button (pictured)?

Does it?

Caroline Cheese is your live host throughout the weekend - for Friday practice, Saturday qualifying and Sunday's race, - and would love to hear your thoughts on that. And anything else F1-related.

It's all about opinion on 606.

Also, paint us a picture of where you are following the action. Milton Keynes? Mexico City?

And who are your podium predictions for Sunday? Enjoy.

There is little question that the Brawn team failed Barrichello. The change in strategy that was required in order to preserve Rubens' shot at a podium was not rocket science. It was done on the fly for years when Michael was in the red car. Brawn didn't simply let Barrichello down, something else is afoot. I don't indulge in conspiracy theories, but I also have been listening to Ross Brawn's blather for 15 years -- and, if you listen really closely, you will discover that--like most of his competitors--he rarely says anything that can be proven wrong. He is not only a superb race strategist and tactician, but also a very accomplished dissembler. He should run for office in the states.

Rubens might be justifiably upset but as Ross said, during the race he didn't have the whole picture. You also do not ever ever go off on public TV like that. Sure get back to the briefing room and let off but not on national TV. Imagine what your boss would say to you if you criticised your company on TV in a very harsh manner?

Well said RB. Its nice to see a F1 driver who can speak (other than when he appears in some commercial).
If Brawn did deliberately hold him up, the team should be penalized!!"

I assume here you are trying to have yet another dig at Lewis Hamilton? What is your problem?

Rubbish!!! RB was well within his rights to speak in whichever manner about the debacle from Brawn. Quite frankly if I was RB I would tell them to go to hell. He does not need to prove anything or justify his comments. An element of paranoia is needed by everyone. But what I have seen this season RB has been disgracefully treated by Brawn. In life you have to look out for yourself. RB shoudl leave Brawn or better still just make life a misery for them.

"RB has been disgracefully treated by Brawn"

Really??? Brawn gave an old should-be-retiree one last swan song in this year's best car. That's as close to a gift as you can get!

Rubens should be lucky that with all the other stuff going around, Ross decided it prudent to stick with a known, but lacking, driver insstead of adding yet more change with a new driver.

No way will he be in Brawn next year, based on both merit and a complete lack of professionalism.

I hope he doesn't let the door hit him on the way out - he'd only accuse Brawn of attacking him with a door, after all...

Can we stop using the abbrieviation RB please? You could be talking about both Rubens Barrichello or Ross Brawn so please stop being so lazy and just type out the whole name. Is it really too much to ask?

Well i think as Ross said Rubens only had 11th fastest lap time which shows its not only the teams mistake. And to by jrh1518jrh hamiliton said that with the right tyre gone it caused damage to the underside of the car so no matter whether he pushed or not (which i think would have been a waste of time and gearbox/engine) he was always going to be well off the pace. if he hadn't had that puncture it would be podium for sure.

"Rubino spent too much time behind Massa gave the drive thro back to Webber"

--------------------------

Absolutely !
Similarly Button (and everybody else !) spent too much time stuck behind a Dog Slow Kovalainen.

Brawn's strategy was obviously wrong, whatever gamble they took when they decided on a three stopper, simply didn't pay off,
But Hey !
That's Racing !

Well Done Webber though, and Vettel, and Massa, and certainly not forgetting Nico Rosberg.

Yeah yeah, well done Webber
Stop crying Reubens

More importantly!
Farewell Bourdais? I really hope not. Admittedly the 4-time Champ car champion hasn't made the best case for himself in the last sewason-and-a-half, but there have been so many incidents that have got between him and big hauls of points.

For instance, everyone will remember last years' Italian GP for Toro Rosso's win, with Vettel at the helm. But had it not been for an electronic glitch at the start-line, Bourdais could have made it a truly legendary 1-2 for STR, and as for who would have led home, well, I don't think the Frenchman would have taken orders to stay 2nd. His pace throughout the race was on par with Vettel, when no-one else was close.

More recently, he came a cropper thanks to Kovaleinen and now it seems that the Red Bull franchise hace given up on this years Le Man's runner-up.

Maybe one of the new teams for 2010 will take on the Frenchman, and hopefully with a competitive vehicle to boot, this years STR is badly in need of its RBR updates to stop the rot setting in and pinning the team to the back of the field. Buemi had good early pace, but as the traffic spread out, the lack of car speed was evident as he slowly fell back.

Bourdais, F1 Champion 2010!
