Yet another Alonso article...

Premier League Liverpool

Alonso's first season was superb. His next was average and the one after that was poor again. (although, he was injured quite a bit)

That was the only reason Benitez wanted to swap him for Barry. Alonso surely would have known deep down that he didn't perform well over those 2 years. Rafa will move you on if you don't perform.

I think that in an ideal world Benitez would have liked to hang on to Alonso in case he came good again and still get Barry, but due to finances, would've had to sell to buy. It all went public, and thus started a big merry go round, and we all know the rest.

Point is, Alonso came very close to being sacraficed for Barry and has since bucked himself up. He had his best season in a red shirt last season, and his best season in a Spanish shirt too. He is an established top international footballer at the top of his game, and he's not for sale!

We can't afford to buy someone to replace him in our team both from a financial point of view and the fact that we want to mount a serious assault on the premiership this season. Bringing someone in, no matter how good, would take time to adapt/settle in to a new team and it ultimately would be a gamble, no matter who we bought. Veron, Shevchenko aanyone? Given all this, why would we want to sell Alonso? He has played his way into being a key player for us now.

Last season he was immense. I noticed a big differnce everytime he wasn't playing. We always seem more fluid when he plays. I don't think money could buy his worth to us for this coming season. We simply must keep him!!

I said "No it does not, oh narrow-minded one, but it made us a winner, more important than being a Ronaldo.

Let's hope you dont get anything this or any other season."

You said in response: "Remind me again, when was the last time you guys won a trophy? And when was the last time we won a trophy??"

Now, where is that an appropriate reply to my comment, is what I've asked you from way back? I didnt mention about what you won and we've won since when, did I? Just said I hope you wont win anything, didnt say 'I bet you dont win anything', and you could have said 'I hope Alonso goes and so too do Liverpool, no achievements, no trophies, nada.'

Seemed like you just cruising to get your chest out, pigeon-style.

You're making such a big fuss over something i said! Maybe it wasn't the best ''appropriate reply'' to your comments, but does it matter? Does it REALLY REALLY matter? No, it doesn't! If it makes you happy, you can say something bad about chelsea's history to even things up! I really don't care! Instead of making such a big fuss about a sentence i said, you could have easily ignored, and got on with life!

END OF ARGUMENT

I have gotten on with life, and you're a fine one! You taking advice from your own advice? Because you could have ignored things yourself.

"END OF ARGUMENT"

Wasnt an argument, not from my end, that's the 2nd time you've referred to it as such. Maybe you get disgruntled at a few LFC fans giving it large. I'm not like that.

I think Alonso needs to stay if Liverpool are to go one step further and win the league this season. Hopefully Benitez can convince him to stay for at least another year.

I know i wrote the original article.. and i pointed out why i think he was up for sale last season, and how this season it's a different story.

But i'm coming round to the idea of him being sold. If we got the asking price ~£30 million (or €35M) i think we could replace him and possibly add one or two more.

We shall see. Speculating on the issue won't change anything, and in the absence of an official quote from the player, we will just have to wait and see what happens.

The squad leaves for Asia next week probably monday - so we might hear something by then. Or possibly not!
