Well guys Dhoni and his boys have done it again. Inspite of media shrill and a few die hards curses, dhoni's luck played out again and he won his fifth odi seriese
in a row. Is he plain lucky to do that?

@Cosmic & asia,
I was being sarcastic on dhoni's critic who are still crediting all his accomplishments to luck. Otherwise I agree with Imran khan (Pakistan) that Dhoni is the best captain Imran has seen. A few idi..pts on 606 not withstanding.cheers

As wins go this one lacked conviction. I suppose we should be happy that India won but unfortunately this series lacks the flavour.

We have won all the series played for the past year or so. Sri Lanka, England , Australia, New Zealand...

Some of them were convincing. But this one is certainly not. Maybe fellow India fans might feel I am unduly critical. I just felt we were lucky and lacked the conviction. In the two matches we won it is not as we had a stranglehold on the proceedings. In the match we lost , we did so convincingly. In fact we were whipped.

Things don't look good. The World Cup is not far off and we need better second strings. This team struggles without the lead performers - Sehwag, Zaheer,Raina. Imagine if Yuvraj was too injured.

However all this should not away any credit to West Indies. Well done. They have really rallied well after their loss to England and add this to their recent performance in T20. Their team is surely improving and they were actually unlucky to lose this series.

Well Stazz,
you said both. Three of India's first choice were not available in spite of fatigue and bad form of their players, they did beat WI. Didn't they? That speakes their bench strength. Now if a team makes 340 in an odi and wins iwill say it is pretty convincing. I agree with you that they were not in their marauding best in this series but good enough to beat WI.

a rest is well earned after the achievements of the last year, if they dont, performances such as that of twenty20 could be more frequent!!!...stay home, stay out the media and then for the final push to the number 1 spot!!

Toofan,
As you know, this win is not sufficient. Yes we did not have some key players and did win the series without them. But the point is - these guys did not dominate, rather they struggled. Moreover the batting has not been good. In fact even after allowing for the absence of some good players it seems the others have slipped a bit in batting and fielding. And in bowling we need some areas to be tightened. Ishant is good in Tests but in ODIs he is becoming expensive. Should it be a case of giving him more experience or do we need another step in. I am not sure. But we must develop some alternatives anyway as injuries and burnouts are likely to continue. As I mentioned the World Cup is not far away and we can't be always looking at the present. Other teams - West Indies, England , Sri Lanka are rebuilding very well. Even Pakistan is resurgent. The competition will be fierce then and if Dhoni & Co take others for granted they could be blown away.

This World Cup will see the Indian team without Sachin, Rahul, Ganguly and VVS. They used to be the core of our cricket and notwithstanding the replacements coming in the team depended a lot on their cricketing experiences. I only wish we had blooded our youngsters much earlier.

miscricfan,
I know I realised that as soon as I posted.
Ammended: I would have said easy 3-1, now I say 3-1 India, and that's 2-1 to India going into the 4th and final ODI.

Please see my previuos post, if it did not rain in the final odi, India would have won 3-1 IMO.

Not far off hey, even had India 2-1 up going into the Final ODI.

Yes Stazz,
I guess Dhoni and his players know that complacency will be suicidal.

What I admire about Dhoni is his determination. He was the one who must have been physically and mentally tired more than others in the team because of the tripple roles, WK, Batsman and Captains roles he plays for the team, And inspite of all the hooplah, media frenzy, fans shrill for his head, abs4ence of the three key players, he stuck to his guns and played three top class innings to help India win this series. Fair enough he was selected player of the series award. That shows his greatness.

I agree with you about Ishant Sharma and Rohit sharma. India must find their replacement as they are with their enept game a big burden on the team. It is good that Ashish Nehra is playing good.

Hope they will be formidable again with Sehwag, tendulkar and zaheer returning to the fold.
