A good Twenty20 draw for England?

Twenty20 England
comment on the article

The groups for next year's World Twenty20 have been announced by the ICC.
England have been pitched into a group with the team that knocked them out of the tournament in 2009, the West Indies, and one other qualifier.
Pakistan are in with Australia and Bangladesh; Sri Lanka with New Zealand and Zimbabwe and India with South Africa and the other qualifying side.
Is it a good draw for England?

Not too bad that, actually. Of course things will be much easier if Chris Gayle goes down injured beforehand...

There wasn't supposed to be one next year. It was supposed to be an ICC Trophy.

But the previous one got postponed due to problems in Pakistan and will be held in September (or October). So they changed the one for next year (in the WIndies) into a T20.

Things should go back to normal after that with the T20 being held every two years.

This way it also wouldn't coincide with world cup years . . . as it'd be in even years.

why do always host the finals of any of these major tournaments in Barbados? The island has lost all interest in the sport and the only people you get at the games (in all the Caribbean) are red sunburnt tourists. everyone seems to be keen to deny this fact but why on earth keep trying to interest a public that only want american sports. perhaps this is last refuge of colonial broadcasting.

A much fairer draw for 2010 than 2009's was.

I dunno how fair the draw is to Ireland. They will probably be the No. 1 qualifier and they get to play South Africa and India, whereas the second qualifier gets to play England and the Windies, who are much more beatable for the associate nations.......

The fact that Ireland have to qualify is already bad enough, seeing as Bangladesh and Zimambwe are automatically drawn.

Don't confuse spectator support for Test cricket with that for 20/20 cricket....
doh
The two years ago, Australia toured the Caribbean, and the 20/20 match with the WI was sold out in Barbados. In fact, every 20/20 international in the Caribbean has been sold out. So, expect every match involving the WIndies to be played in front of packed audiences....

It's as Chris Gayle says - crowds prefer 20/20 cricket. The crowd support for Test cricket is dwindling....

"A Test Match World Cup wouldnt work at all, that would be stupid as it would take forever to finish one.
Instead of the ICC World 20/20 every year, it should be on in the 2nd year between every 50 over World Cup so:
2007 50/50
2009 20/20
2011 50/50
2013 20/20

Would be better then every single year if I am honest."

Not bad: I think I would go with the T20 every 2 years, and alternating test and 50 over championships in between:

2010: T20 world cup (24 countries)
2011: 50over world cup (12 teams)
2012: T20 world cup
2013: culmination of 4 year Test Championship - top two teams over the last 4 years play a best of 3 series.

then repeat...

England will go through with the expense of Windies because the gallant Afghans are on thier way to the finals.Afghanistan has already beaten the likes of Ireland, Scotland and the USA, so God willing the will do it again in the current qualifiers.Don't forget, they qualified in style without losing any game at all in the UAE where they lifted the tittle. It was a proud day for us as well as for cricket itself.

My dream will come true when Afghanistan play England which will be absolutely special and even more special to play England in the final.Wow. Who knows? anything can happen.

Common Afghanistan and England.
biggrin
Peace
