The Legends Laguna Seca -Quali Report

comment on the article

Yesterdays qualification had All the thrills and spills we have come to expexct from MotoGP.
From recent races it was obvious who would be the main contenders battling it out and they did not disappoint.
Jorge Lorenzo posted an early quick time to top the timings and leave Casey stoner and Valentino Rossi struggling to match him. That was until Jorge had the first of his two accidents when he laid down his Yam at high speed and whilst it cart wheeled across the gravel, he safely followed it sliding serenely on his back.
Whilst Jorge was quickly on his feet and and running back to his garage to mount his spare bike, Casey put in a quick one to top the timings but Jorge took little time to snatch the lead back.

For the rest of the session, Valentino had no answer to Jorge's and Casey's speed and could not improve on third. Then came the twist in the tail- three minutes from the end of Quali, Jorge had a huge high speed high-side almost simultaneously with Casey high-siding as well. Both were stretchered off so it looks like Vale could be starting in 3rd but with the pole sitter and No2 missing from the start. It will be a boring race without Lorenzo and Stoner so I hope they are only badly winded.

I just have a feeling that Tiger Toni will take someone off in the first couple of laps and he usually takes out Rossi but hopefully my feeling will be wrong as I want good racing. Rossi hasn't been going that well on race rubber compared to Stoner and Lorenzo although with their injuries and illnesses it could either be a leveller or a Rossi triumph, hopefully it's a leveller though and good racing will occur.

Article well written, although you got the starting 3 positions wrong - Vale starts second, before Stoner. Any chance of editing your article?

The race should be an interesting one. How badly are the injuries going to help Rossi? Are they at all? I reckon the two crashees will fight Rossi, with Lorenzo coming close second. I also expect Hayden to do something special. Good luck to them all.

Another factor to consider is the hard tire compound, as seen in quali, if the tires are too cold, people crash. We may see a lot of that today. I expect the more experienced drivers will take it easy for the first few laps.

For those wondering why I have deleted several comments. It is because they were spam relating to an off topic argument re BBC scheduling.doh All the other comments are debating the subject well and are most welcome whether or not they agree with my views. I think Dani will do well this race and be the only one to challenge Rossi. If Jorge dislocated his shoulder then I doubt he will be able to maintain the pace to stay with the front runners. cool

I'm hoping that both JL and CS can at least start. We need someone to race Vale, perhaps Dovi can up his game

Have those injuries been confirmed yet?
There was some talk about the bridgestone rear tyre..

Maybe this is a daft question but shouldn't both riders have been managing their tyres?
It's a risky sport but those were 2 scary high siders, off the throttle too

I think that Stoner got slowed up by other riders and effected the right hand side of the tyre.

Jorge didn't look too happy coming out of the ambulance. I think the slight injury and that strange illness for Casey makes Rossi the favourite, but hopefully it will be a good contest. It will certainly have to go some to match last year's race.

Rossi was not happy with his qualifying, and will make some changes for the race. I think Vale will make it 101 tonight. I wonder if he's got any dalmatian themed celebrations planned.

"Jorge didn't look too happy coming out of the ambulance".

Thats got to be one of the daftest comments ever. Does anyone ever look happy after a high speed high side and being carted off in an ambulance. Maybe he should have been doing cartwheels???

You're right. It was daft. Of course Jorge never looks happy.
