IT WAS 1-1 AND THE SUN WAS SHINING...

comment on the article

..a large number of Saints fans boosted Eastleigh's takings to over £10,000 for an enjoyable afternoon out in the sun. Quite refreshing to be in a ground where you bump into friends every 5 minutes and the fans mix, the ice cream van reminded me of the old days at the Dell.

First half Eastleigh clearly wanted to get an early goal and controlled the game, lively up front and compressed our play to the point where the crowd all shuffled up to one end!

They didn't get the break through although not because of good Saints defending but poor finishing by their forwards. Bart was average, Perry as solid as ever and Thomas was just plain ugly as ever (and i am not talking looks).

First half it was the same old problems though.

1. No midfield controller.
2. No real wide play, Holmes was constantly shouting for the ball in space on the left but it always went narrow.
3. Big clog of Saints players stuck in the centre and made Eastleigh's very good movement look even better.
4. Rasiak was anonymous.
5. No height in defence and as i say Eastleigh should have gone in at half time ahead.

Ice cream at half time wasn't too bad, burgers were a tad dodgy.

Second half and the introduction of some feisty young players gave Saints dominance to a degree although Eastleigh were always a threat.

Number 5 (blonde kid) was impressive and chances opened up, i could name a few more but i spent too much time chatting to keep up with who was who. Eastleigh deserved the goal to be honest although Forecast will want to forget that one. He did seem slow to claim at times.

It was a good run out and not much more than that and i at last got a chance to see who still actually plays for Saints.

Great afternoon at the game. UTS

I liked the look of Ryan Doble. He was our number 10 and I thought he looked confident and comfortable on the ball. Also I think the defensive partnership between Lancashire and Saville looked very promising. smiley

If you look on the Saints website profiles it says Forecast is widely tipped to be a future England No 1! laughdoh

It was the first time I saw Pulis in a Saints shirt and hopefully the last!

The team put out in the first half contained many first teamers looked ordinary against Eastleigh! At least the kids in the 2nd half looked interested!

Hoping to see a better game against Bournemouth next weekend!COYR!

I was impressed with Pulis.

He looked confident when he got on the ball and made some nice passes.

He might have a big role to play in league 1

agreed about number 10 too, liked number 2 as well, think he was geting a bit peeved at the Eastleigh number 17.

was refreshing to see a saints team player with some fire in thier bellies.

Kudos to Matt Patterson for getting the goal too.

Yes, they all looked promising against quite a good Eastleigh side. Now i know who the number 10 was!

Positives today:-
The seemless changeover at half-time they all seem to be singing from the same hymn sheet, = good management.
The move and finish for Matpats goal.
The fact that the youngsters were willing to try different moves, they will work better with practice.
Negatives:
Lack of progress down the wings, shortage of quality crosses, but they need a decent target man anyway.
The schoolgirl spat between Jake and Lloyd in the middle of the first half, they need to grow up a bit and play for the team not for their own egos.
Isn't nice to be talking football, not politics? smiley

Had a lovely afternoon in the sunshine. First half football was woeful, Rasiak, Holmes and Wotton were simply aweful. Second half was much better with the kids showing us what they have got. Dunford will be a very good player as will Doble and it was good to see Ollie Lancashire back again. I really cannot see Pulis ever playing first team football for us. Great goal by Paterson - I get a feeling he is going to be a very important player for us this season.

How good it was cheering on the Saints once again.

I thought Paterson, Gobern, Saville, Lancashire looked good.

I think Paterson, James, Gillet & Mills (who wasn't there) will have a good season.

Was strange to see Pulis in a Saints shirt after a year of signing him. Thought he looked ok, but will have to see more to really pass judgement.

You could tell Rasiak just didn't want to be there, he's just waiting/hoping to be snapped up.

Fingers crossed the Swiss Billionaires buy us next week & we can secure the services of Stern John, Murty & others.
