Murray is good..but not great!

I for one am very pleased that this Murray hype is done and dusted for another year.

Don't get me wrong, I think Murray is a very good tennis player, but is he great or in the league of Nadal, Fed and other greats? No

And I will explain why.

The media and Murray lauders seem convinced that Murray will win many grand slams, but that simply isn't going to happen.

Nadal and Federer are two of the greatest tennis players of our time, and Murray simply isn't good enough on Clay to trouble Nadal or on grass to trouble Nadal or Federer.

Australian Open is probably his weakest, and by his own admission US Open is his strongest.

Murray is only 22, but the following all won grand slams by the age of 22.

Rod Laver = Won Australian Open at 22

Bjorn Borg = Won three french opens and two Wimbledons at 22.

Pete Sampras = Won Wimbledon and US Open at 22.

Andre Agassi = Won Wimbledon at 22.

Lleyton Hewitt = Won Wimbledon and US Open at 22.

Roger Federer = Won Wimbledon at 22.

Rafael Nadal = Won Four french opens and Wimbledon at 22.

Andy Roddick = Won US Open at 22.

Novak Djokovic = Won Australian Open at 22.

Different players peak at different ages, but unless Murray wins a grand slam within the next 12 months, the likelihood is that he will not become the great player the media and all of you believe he will.

Any other generation then Murray would have won plenty of Grand Slams, but there are two many better and more powerful players out there today.

Nadal does have a 7-2 H2H, but Murray has begun to start turning those early defeats around and has done well against Nadal in the past 12 months.

But that's the thing BTaT, the media hype him up to win A slam, not be the next Federer!

It's people like you that try and contort the general optimism that we have a potential slam winner into something that just doesn't exist.

Like I said, I'm putting Murray down to win 2-4 Majors by the end of his career - and I stick by that prediction.

"I love how I am considered a WUM just for posting factual information about Murray"
The "factual" information I see from you all appears to be your own opinions, which of course you are entitled to but cannot state them as facts.
Nobody can say with any certainty that Andy Murray will,or won`t, win any GS or even get to the finals again but what we can say as fact is he is one of the top 4 or 5 players on the planet. That of course can change quickly, there are no guarantees of future success but surely we should be giving him some credit for reaching the semi final at Wimbledon not decrying his efforts.

My prediction is that if he wins no Slams before y/e09 then he never will.

Fed's appetite may be sated and Nadal might come back from injury as the same player. Murray can fill the vaccum before the next big thing comes along.

Can someone tell me who is the oldest player to win his first major?

As a Scot myself Murray is not in the same class as the greats like Laver / Borg / McEnroe / Becker /Sampras / Connors / Federer these were 1st class id put Nadal in with them once he proves himself over more yrs

Murray is only in the 2nd / 3rd class of player's and shall never hit the same class as above named ok

2nd class there's

How many more french opens does Nadal need to win before you are convinced he is a great player?
