Michael Owen is a superb signing...........

Premier League Manchester United
comment on the article

Michael Owen for 'FREE' is an exceptional move, not only is he proven at ALL levels of the game. He will be an excellent role model for all the youngsters coming through...
His fitness is the issue, but if any Club can look after a Player it's ours....
He's the fox in the box we need, he will score goals and I've no doubt he will be a success. At 50% fit he still scored goals for Newcastle and they were rubbish when it came to providing chances..
So all in all, it's a great signing.....

its not a gamble as owen is free, but the fact that he's free seems to be one of the few good things anyone has to say about it.

i keep hearing "if fergie can keep him fit he will score 20 goals a season"

well first off if there was a magic cure for injuries at old trafford then you'd of thought fergie would of used it on hargreaves and saha

secondly owen has never scored 20 goals in a season, not even at his best for liverpool.

the only gamble is if fergie thinks owen can replace tevez and does'nt buy another top forward.

if fergie does buy another top forward then how often will owen play??? maybe the odd carling cup game.

and what about the rooney and owen can't play in the same team that we keep hearing about with england which has resulted in cappello picking heskey or crouch in front of owen??

so forgive the rest of the footballing world for not shaking in there boots

I think Michael Owen will be a fantastic addition to Manchester United's squad. I feel that at times, pundits and fans alike have a tendency to overreact to a player's situation. In Owen's case, he still has the ability to be a success at the top flight of English football. He has a knack of scoring important goals and providing he can keep his fitness up to the required standard, he is the bargain of the century.

A player whose goal scoring record speaks for it self, he has scored bucket loads of goals wherever he has been. Be it at Liverpool, Real Madrid, Newcastle or on the international stage with England, time and again he has found the winning formula relating to putting the ball in the back of the net. Nowadays in the modern transfer market, poachers are priceless, a rare species that are very hard to come by.

Owen certainly fits into this category. Everyone knew that his time at Newcastle was up. In all honesty, the move for him has turned out to be a disaster and his career has stalled and gone backwards. Viewing it from this angle with him losing his place in the England squad, he is badly in need of a fresh start. Now is the time that he can prove the critics wrong, showing he is still the fresh faced Michael Owen who burst onto the scene all those years ago.

I feel he still has a very good chance of getting into the England World Cup Squad. It is the least he deserves as he has been a tremendous servant to the Three Lions down the years. If he can get an extended run in the first team playing with some of the best players in the world, I have a feeling his fortunes will instantly take a turn for the better.

At Newcastle, he looked dejected and lost but going to the Theatre Of Dreams is a completely different kettle of fish. He will probably have had to accept lower wages but for the longevity of his career, it should not be deemed as being a bad thing. Michael, you have a two year contract. This is probably going to be your last club before you retire. Do us all proud, and go out with a bang.

Look, its very simple....you have lost 2 real world class players, 1 being the No.1
Are you Man U people listening to yourselves??

You can no longer attract the very best, in fact they want to leave, proof needed??
Valencia, big money and untried, Owen the new sicknote, and even when fit, he has lost that sharpness and 2 yards of pace....so who are you trying to kid..happy Ron has gone? Well of course you are...yea right!!
The balance of power is shifting.
Also what are you going to do with your ageing midfield..Scholes, Giggs, also Neville and of course super sicknote Hargreaves..by the way he and Owen should really get to know each other next season.
So a bit of a reality check is required, I understand human nature and you are trying to put a brave face on all this, afterall as a long suffering Spurs fan I konw all about dreaming, but old Man U aint the place to be anymore I am afraid!!

to be fair berty tevez wasnt exactly world class for us. owen wont have to do much to beat his goal return.

yes ronaldo is a blow but he was always gonna go. we've lost great players in the past and been fine.

as for a tottenham "we're gonna break into the top 4" Hotspur telling utd fans for a reality check... laugh
