Wimbledon 2009 best match so far?

Wimbledon
comment on the article

For me it was todays womens semi final between Serena and Dementieva. High quality and dramatic. Havn't watched much womens tennis lately and I was very pleasantly surprised.

Yes, I`ve always considered Dementieva, like Myskina, to be rather flaky considering their rankings, but she showed some real class today, and if the net had been a tad looser, would quite likely have won.

Sorry, but I never felt the result was in doubt. I correctly predicted when Serena was going to break serve in the final set.

Did you also correctly predict when Dementieva would have set point?laugh

And now get ready for the Williams final. For all those insomniacs out there I suggest you watch it. You'll be asleep in a minute. The wimbo organisers have to do something about this. At least get them into the same half of the draw.

Never in doubt? The ball in by a millimetre (according to hawkeye) at a match score that ought to be called 'Haas point'. Several other balls that fell millimetres in or out in Serena's favour. This match was decided on the narrowest of margins.

I am being unfairly taken to task for saying I never felt the result of this match was in doubt.

This match followed a very similar path to the 2005 final between Venus and Lindsay Davenport, when Lindsay had match points, but it was still inconceivable that Venus would not win. You only have my word for it, but when the score got to 6-6 in the final set yesterday, I said out loud "That's probably it. I bet Serena breaks Dementieva's serve now."
