He would have been Boro's first choice keeper and would have played all season if he had not expressed a desire to leave. The BBC site says he was displaced by Brad Jones when infact he was dropped by Southgate who cut off his nose to spite his face. His contract was running down so he was obviously able to talk to other clubs. I wish him well because he is young and will be fine tuning his trade with one of the best keepers the premiership has ever seen - Petr cech. It's not Turnbulls fault that our club did not tie him down, that we released Schwarzer a year early without giving Ross time to bed in and also the fact that Southgate could not see that Turnbull was clearly better than Brad Jones. If you snooze you lose and we have lost a good young English keeper. He is a big powerfull lad who commands the box well. He made some mistakes but then he was in a team with no confidence. Good Luck Ross.

Dark_Smoggie (U5024182) posted Jul 3, 2009 Yes Turnbull is a good keeper and better than Brad Jones but at best at Championship level, he makes too many mistakes even at his time on loan at Cardiff he made mistakes in his first few games the was dropped. The reason he left Boro was due to his insane wage demands, hence why no other club touched him, he also wanted to be 1st choice and when he was and was given decent contracts, yet he still wanted more.

youngalexf (U10514371) posted Jul 3, 2009 I'm seriously worried about what's happening at the boro. Maybe he did have high wage demands, maybe he was annoyed at being passed over for the spectacularly average jones but these are all things that clubs have to manage and deal with. We are now left with a lightweight keeper in a tough division with no obvious back up. There doesn't seem to be any positive news coming out of the boro at the minute. 1st division here we come.

Ross is a brilliant keeper and its a shame we have lost him, hes brave will put his head into a strikers foot to ensure he comes out with the ball. Schwarzer left the club to early due to being messed about with his contract. Instead of signing a replacement southgate has faith in Ross which shows how good he is. I think it was just maybe 1 year to early. Ross is a brilliant goalkeeper and being a understudy to petr cech will do him the world of good. whether he eventially breaks in to the first 11 or whether he is sold for a profit its a great signing. Training with players like anelka and lampard rather than alves and digard will mean he will actually get some shot stopping practice.

Concernedincardiff (U2834834) posted Jul 5, 2009 we had him at Cardiff for a while and he made so many gaffs he ended up benched. He did show some signs of talent though and I think in the right club and the right surroundings he could be a good number 2

Zandero373 (U14130767) posted Sep 8, 2009 Okay, it was a free transfer, but couldn't Chelsea have poured just a little more money, maybe £200,000 atleast, into a more able goalkeeper. I know he is still quite young, after all, most keepers reach their prime around 29 - 30, but his goals conceded record at Boro versus his appearances for the club are very bad, and like concernedincardiff mentioned, he messes up too much. Personally I think Turnbull should have stayed at Boro or moved to a lesser side atleast. He will get little opportunity at Chelsea and even if he does, the pressure is on him to do well in a world class team.
