Murray - Only Six Sets from Glory!

by flyingkidney (U13788986) 02 July 2009
comment on the article

Andy Murray is only 6 sets away from greatness.

His H2H against Roddick and Federer in both cases is 6-2.

Easy!

I have a feeling that apart from the queuers who will be screaming until they are hoarse, CC may not be as loud as everyone thinks it will be. I might be completely wrong but the usual CC crowd for this time of the tournament consists of members and all the landed gentry etc so it might be a less noisy affair unlike Wawrinka's match.

No its not! There are plenty of CC tickets for SF and finals dished out to the public! I am going on Sunday and got my ticket through my club. I shall be screaming very loudly for Andy (whichever one it happens to be).

I agree, Murray is no Nadal! and lets not remember that @ Indian wells Fed had yet to find his form of late let alone regain his confidence after his loss at the a/o against no other than Nadal! however he worked hard after his loss in Monte-carlo to wawrinka and come Rome he looked like the old Federer again! He went on to win Madrid and after his win in RG he has seemed stronger than ever, Murray is going to have one heck of a challenge on his hands and he knows it! this is grass Rogs fave surface so its going to take some performance by his opponent (Murray may not get to final), to beat him, I would love to see Murray do it though..

Murray will drop 1 set against Roddick and zero sets against Federer.

Mark my words.

I know my tennis!

Did it occur to you that since last US Open, the not-in-form Fed has lost to Murray 4 times (not 5) because he faced him more than anyone else?

===============================================

I wondered which of the "knowledgeable" Federistas would fall for this one.

As everyone who can count and actually follows tennis knows, Murray HAS beaten Federer 5 times since the USO final.

4 times in ATP events, but also in January 2009 in the Capitala World Tennis Championship in Abu Dhabi - an invitational non-ATP event with prize money far in excess of most ATP tournaments ($250k 1st prize). 6 of the world's top 10 took part, with Murray beating Blake, Federer and Nadal on successive days to scoop the jackpot.

It doesn't show in the official h2h because it wasn't an ATP event, but do you really think that Federer wasn't trying to beat Murray?

Particularly as this was their 1st encounter after Murray had eliminated Federer at the round-robin stage of the 2008 ATP Masters Cup.

"I am still worried about the roof though"

The roof hindered Murray more than Warwinka, because it made the court play like a clay, due to the humidity slowing the ball down

Quite the reverse when Murray is playing Roddick, as A-Rod needs dry red hot conditions so his server is unreturnable. Bit of a problem if it is slowed down by conditions and you're up against the best returner in the world

Lots of Fed fans, just love to dismiss Murray's victories

I can guanrantee you Fed doesn't. I feel that he takes it almost personally that this miserable 'moonballer' nearly always beats him and it was notable that a Swiss TV reporter had nothing good to say about Murray

Such a stance, immediately changes Fed's approach to Murray as he gets more frustrated with the fact he's getting beaten by someone he clearly doesn't rate (forget any recent 'nice' comments, Fed rarely has a good word to say about Murray OR Nole!!) than the defeat itself. For instance i think he'd handle a Roddick victory and would be his normal charming self

Such a stance can only motivate Murray as it will appeal to the dour black sense of humour that us Northerners have, if someone doesn't like you for a particular reason - keep it going and watch them blow up!!

I'm not a Federer fan, so it pains me to agree with him that "slams are different." Look at some of the people RF has lost to recently in best of 3 set matches: Wawrinka, Simon,Karlovic, Fish and Blake. All players he'd most likely despatch in straight sets at slams. He's only lost in GS finals to one man: Rafa Nadal. So unless Murray channels Nadal on Sunday Federer will most likely win. Unfortunately. Though I'm sure Roger would prefer Andy R. to beat Andy M. and roll over in the final like the old days.
