According to the WO, Watford have signed Carlisle striker Danny Graham. No idea of how good he will be, certainly a gamble! Anyone seen him play?

i think unless your name is Nathan Ellington hes made it pretty clear that everyone has a chance under him. But i think we can say that any offer for one of our "high" earners then i think they would be off.

I reckon he could be a good signing for you guys, any idea what sort of compensation will be given?

Danny G is a big gamble for you boys. Hopefully he will do the job for watford but i doubt it. he needs a constant run in the team to be able to score, he certainly isnt an impact sub, the bonus with danny though is he is a real workhorse, he will put in a real shift for you guys if played for definate. No goals since january for us though and that was when we really needed them so can come across very moody and lazy. good luck for next season guys.

Contrasting opinions on Graham. Certainly he isn't what I'd term an exciting signing - he's been around (a lot) and hasn't really impressed ...... In a way I think he could be another Scott Fitzgerald?

By the way he'll be 24 on 12th August - if he had been 6 weeks older Carlisle would not be entitled to ANY FEE. Therefore my valuation for him is £100k. With the liklihood of further player sales, I presume he and Severin will be joined by other newcomers.

If not I can't see us being big scorers in the league. By the way which one of the coaching staff is going to coach the forwards? MM, SD DK etc were all defenders in their playing careers, so I'm looking for someone who will inspire forward play. What is Luther up to these days?

Our last 2 signings from Carlisle - Allan Smart and Nicky Wright - did quite well for us.

Very mixed opinions on Graham. I've never seen him play so I'm relying on the views of those who have.

It seems that Carlisle fans in general believe he's a hard worker with a bit of ability but probably not good enough for this level. I hope they're wrong about the last bit.

On compensation, I think you might be about right Elixir. I don't want any of this £250k nonsense: I think that'd be too high. That was Huddersfield's bid back in January, before his barren patch. True, it was rejected, but surely in this climate and with his poor form the valuation should have gone down? Also, I didn't think that tribunal outcomes regarding development fees were exactly equivalent to transfer values. Maybe I'm just being hopeful.

If he works hard, puts himself about a bit and scores a few goals, he'll be very welcome here. Most of our fans don't expect superstars, though are pleasantly surprised when we unearth one.

Personally I think he will be a lot better in a higher division,or in a better team,so hopefully he will do it for you.
I think he will be a big miss to us this season, and as for his barren spells,he still scored 40 goals in about 100 games, and we played a different system for the last three month's.

I don't really want to go into long-winded opinionated discussion on whether Graham is the right the right man for us, based on this and that and the other. Malky and his advisors have no doubt done their research on the guy, have contacted others for their views, etc, etc. and he's on his way. I feel in our financial position we need to take a few risks (with little out-going costs and only perhaps conpensation to pay?) on incoming players such as this and hope that we've found a rough diamond. He probably won't be the last. But anyway, good luck to him and ....COYH

Watford, I can assure you that you have got yourselves a fantastic young striking prospect in Danny Graham. As a Carlisle United season ticket holder, I have watched him week in week out, having been impressed with his performances over the past few years. But, there are quite clearly times when he does suffer from a lack of confidence. This has lead to him going on a 10 game streak without scoring a goal, which is unacceptable.

He has a phenomenal work rate and if he can start being your main goal poacher as well as a target man who can hold up the play before support gets to him, then he will become a fans favourite at Vicerage Road. Being signed from a Premier League club at the time in Middlesbrough, he has been a good player for us but now has a excellent chance to progress at a much bigger club who have better facilities and more money.

I am afraid, this is the harsh reality of modern day football. Danny Graham, I wish you all the success in the future and Brunton Park will always be open for you if you wish to return.
