Just confirmed this morning that Bolton have signed Sean Davies from Portsmouth on a free transfer.

Are you Bolton fans happy with this transfer?

And Pompey fans what do you make of this news?

Bean I don't care about the date on the ground, all i'm saying is that modern grounds IMO are better for the game and in the long run for the fans.

The reason we don't come to Portsmouth now is simple. I can't afford it, I'm a single dad working part time with one 13 yr old and one 9 yr old son.

I'd go and watch us play on a municipal park if that's where we happened to be but in all truth finances dictate where we go now, along with time. That's the only reason we don't get down to London either, and Bean, my kids are like anyone else's, I don't wrap 'em in cotton wool mate.

I'm just glad they don't HAVE to stand behind a wire fence or dodge flying bottles and seats. Is that really wrong?

Peter, agreed, nobody needs to look forward (optimistically) than us, but as a Pompey fan our ground ia always called into question no matter what the topic of discussion.

Ask an away team where they would rather play, a packed out Fratton or a half full Riverside or Pride Park etc.

They hate playing here, because of the atmosphere and the history and the passion that is missing from so many grounds.

I love that I can see the teeth marks in tha rail in front of me from where i chewed nervously as a 7 year old with mt dad nearly 20 years ago, we have watched a lot of dross, but fratton has always rocked.

Anyone can build a new ground, nobody can build a 'new atmosphere'

You seem to aquate an old stadium with atmospher and charachter (mis matched stands, a clear kop, close to the pitc etc etc) with wire fences and I quote 'flying bottles and seats'.

You are correct, its not wrong that you feel your kids shouldtnt have to watch from behind wire surrounded by hooligans.

And they DONT at any ground (no matter when it was built or how close the car park is or how shiny the urinals are) anywher in England.

fair enough bean but I think if you ask any fan up here we'd have to admit that Burnden was on its last legs, even before we stuck a supermarket on it.

I've been to all 92 league grounds (pre automatic relegation to the Conference) and quite a few non league grounds as I've followed the trotters and I can honestly say I never want to go back to the 'good old days'.

That's not a comment on Fratton Park, just a comment on football in general. Sorry if it came across otherwise. ok

You guys can still smoke in the ground? Ok I'm there! laugh

Seriously though Bean, I hope your takeover goes through mate, I still remember worrying about whether or not we'd even HAVE a club next season, for all his faults in the last few years there's no doubt Ed Davis played a big part in keeping us alive at a time when that was in serious doubt.

All the best, gotta go and make my kid's tea. ok

Davis was needed last year with the departure of Muntari, Mendes and Diarra and missed when not fit. This is more to do with the remaining dross we have in midfield and I fear the worst if we don't start signing some decent players soon! Davis was a squad player when we had quality. Lets be honest Mullins is awful, Bouba Diop not much better and Hughes a squad player with admittedly good attitude, Basinas showed flashes of class but for some reason Hart didn't fancy him.
I only hope this takeover happens rapidly enough to get a decent manager and a few players. Otherwise it's adios prem!
