Do we expect better signings or not?Premier League Blackburn Rovers by newbburnrover1 (U14011018) 30 June 2009 I am not so sure the last 4 signings will actually improve the team in the short term.Givet is class but I don't consider him a new aquisition as he seems to be part of the club now.I am in no doubt many of you are hopeful for a quality midfielder and top striker to be signed soon but who is out there and available?I don't know about anyone else but it worries me that Burnley will get Fletcher and he turns out to be a prolific scorer.I would want Rovers to go for someone better than that like Janko but worry if we spend big wages on Van the horse we may never see him play and he may end up making Santa look healthy. The ideal age must be 23 hence my liking for Marcus Berg because if you can buy a good prospect like we did with Shearer we will keep him a couple of seasons and make a small fortune on himwhen the vultures come calling,we couldn't do that with Van horseface would we? The Media loathes the Rovers (U4678936) posted Jun 30, 2009 Sam's got a plan. He's managed in the prem for ages, he knows what cuts the mustard. If we didn't go for a player its becasue Sam's of the opinion he won't fit his plans.

duggywerefab (U13893818) posted Jun 30, 2009 Didn't we dump several "younger" players go in the last five years, eg Derbyshire, Rigters etc. Buy some younger legs to do the running and fetching, hire the older head to put it in the bag! He doesn't have to be a work horse (face) just needs to know how and when to apply himself

newbburnrover1 (U14011018) posted Jun 30, 2009 Maybe Van's the answer at least if we get him and he gets fit we are more or less guaranteed goals as his record speaks for itself but I would not want anyone else his age in our gereatric strike force.

Roverlution (U14041414) posted Jul 1, 2009 Bellion - whats your point? It's widely accepted that, barring a player being out of contract, the cost of signing english players is out of proportion. Why pay more for a similar standard?

xtp (U2197035) posted Jul 1, 2009 Given his original transfer budget for this summer appears to be minus £8million, I doubt he can afford to pay 50-200% inflation fees on English players.

blueandwhitehalves1 (U13756404) posted Jul 1, 2009 Exactly. I'm as patriotic as they come but buying english players is simply too expensive for a club like Rovers. The top 4 may be able to afford to pay inflated prices for english players (£17.5m for Johnson, £18.6m for Carrick, £30m for Ferdinand) but we can't. The amount of money involved in the premiership these days means you'll have to pay AT LEAST 150% of what an english player is actually worth. It just doesn't make good business sense.
