Bolt - Another Jog Over the Line

Just watched both the 100 and 200 at the Jamaican trials. One thing that is beginning to concern me is that Usain seems unable to run hard to line when not pushed. Im beginning to wonder if this is an attemp to disguise the fact that he may not be in the shape he wants to be in. I also worry that if put under pressure, which Tyson will do at the worlds if he arrives there in shape, if he will be able to hold it together.

Having now seen both Gay and Bolt this season, i can actually see Gay causing an upset at the worlds. I would still favour Bolt but at this point in time I think Gay is very close to him.

Great comments by all, however a few, in my humble opinion, are misinformed. Tyson Gay has had a fantastic season thus far and seems to be in the best shape of his life. He ran 19.58 in the 200 in quite favourable conditions - third fastest ever. Likewise Bolt has run 19.59 in what, based on reports were horrendous conditions. It is my belief that Bolt would have approached his world record given better conditions. They have similar times in the 100 meters albeit Bolts was wind aided. Bottom line and all things being equal, Tyson will provide a challenge to Bolt but will lose his world titles

gay is not bolts main competitor. powell is in a different class to gay and he will prove jamaica rules supreme in sprinting when he beats bolt at crystal palace and then comes second to bolt in berlin.

I think one thing's for sure, if it's windy and rainy in Berlin, Bolt's got it sewn up. It might even help Powell who can run well in bad conditions.

Coolmaddie - I'd go with
100m
Bolt
Gay
Bailey or Thompson

200m
Gay
Bolt
Could be anyone really - no obvious choice.

Don't think the 200m record will go, but 100m will if conditions are right.

My Berlin predictions if good weather.

100m
Bolt - sub 9.7
Gay - 9.75
Bailey - 9.85

200m
Bolt - 19.4
Gay - 19.5
Crawford - 19.7

I have 2 sets of prediction depending on the weather:

A. In wet & unfavourable windy conditions -

100m
1. Bolt 9.70
2. Powell 9.80
3. Gay 9.82

200m
1. Bolt 19.45
2. Gay 19.60
3. Dix 19.90

B. In Good Conditions

100m
1. Bolt 9.59
2. Gay 9.67
2. Powell 9.70

200m
1. Bolt 19.10
2. Gay 19.40
3. Dix 19.80

The major difference I see is aprt from the times is that Powell(and Bolt) are barely fazed by bad weather.
I am of course hoping that the rain clouds stay away from Berlin.

Don't think Dix will be there - not even sure if he competed at the trials.

In that case switch Dix for Spearman.

Think I'll get off the fence and go Crawford for 3rd in 200m.

Yep, Crawford won the US trials and has one a world title (and managed to avoid the Gatlin mess). He has the pedigree to get a medal.
