Dougherty delivers in Munich

comment on the article

He was given a scare by only the fourth albatross of the European Tour season, but even Rafa Echenique's dramatic 243-yard three-iron finish didn't put off Nick Dougherty.

The 27-year-old rolled home with three consecutive pars to take home the trophy from Munich.

A well-earned victory, surely?

Surely.

Hopefully the career that was on such a positive track fourteen months ago can fast forward again now; it would be wonderful if he could somehow manage sufficiently good finishes in the next month to propel him into the PGA, especially now that he's qualified for Turnberry.

Brilliant win for a very popular player.

He probably makes more birdies than any other player on tour.

Fantastic, the sad passing of his mother seemd to knock him for six. Hopefully he can produce this form in the open. He's won the Dunhill Links so he knows his way round a links course. I'll be following him closely...

Talk about having to fight for it!! Seeing a four stroke lead being whittled down just a single stroke in a matter of seconds would have knocked the wind out a lot of other players. All credit, then, to Nick Dougherty, that he never wavered.

And in case it's the albatross that grabs the headlines - no-one should forget that Dougherty shot a 64 today to win.

Excellent to see such a nice guy returning to his true form.

Have there really been three other albatrosses -
if that's the right plural - this season. Or is it three for ever?

Three this season: Goosen, Allenby, Jimenez.

Nice to see that the good guys do win occasionally.

It was sad to see Nick's form desert him after his Mum died (in a similar way to how Martin Kaymer's form has also dipped) but what a great way to bounce back - and his salute to his Mum in heaven as that final putt dropped was most apt. Here's hoping he just gets better and better - and keeps smiling that infectious smile. ok

And well done to Andrew Butterfield for his first win on the Challenge Tour. He had sold shares in himself to the members at his club (Sundridge Park in Kent) to raise enough money to continue playing this year, his wife having just had their first baby. Those who had faith in him will have that faith well rewarded.

Surely? Stop calling us all Shirley, Mike winkeye

The man has talent in abundance. Considering how the tournament finished up over the closing holes, & how he won, you can add composure to the mans attributes too.

Nice to see him winning, again. ok
