This is rugby, not football ladies!!! agree with you on this slick08, if they do not want to get hurt they should play another game. I do not condone eye gouging but he SB was not, he was in the region of the eye, diff matter. but you have to be hard & play hard.------------------------You are defending the indefensible Saddened you consider this sort of action acceptable although I will say I am not totally surprised...
Burger's actions can never be condoned. It was clear for all to see and it disturbed and shocked his supporters in SA. He has now been punished. Whether it's an 8 or 12 week ban is immaterial - the damage is to his reputation. Hopefully, he will redeem himself one day. However, there is a section of the British fans, and some of the players as well, who choose to focus on an incident such as this as the reason for their failure. They did the same in NZ in 2005 with the Umaga spear tackle.Until such time as they stop whining and start winning, no southern hemisphere side will respect the British rugby teams. One can only thank those members of the British rugby public who kept a sane and balanced view of the matter.
"However, there is a section of the British fans, and some of the players as well, who choose to focus on an incident such as this as the reason for their failure."-----The British media love a scapegoat. It's gonna be either Burger or ROG. I think (if anyone) it should be POC. Absolutely NO leadership qualities whatsoever.
Smeegoan, you are a silly racist twit. Your post is not amusing and exposes your lack of wit and intelligence. And by the way, brush up on that spelling.
With the Burger thing, no doubts he should have seen red. But the ref called it and we move on. As regards Bakkies Botha, you get what you see, he is the team thug and his behaviour is to be expected, especially when the Boks are getting shafted ( as they were in the 1st half). What really sickened me was the sight of the skipper Smit doing the football bit and brandishing an imaginary card to the ref late in the 2nd half when Shawsy high tackled someone. Fair enough maybe it should have been a card but that is for the ref to decide. Used to have a lot of respect for Smit great player, good leader, but this sort of poncy football behavior does him no credit at all. Wonder if De Villiers condones this as well?Any way mitigating circs, Shawsy is an old boy and not quite as flexible as he used to be, can't bend down too far !!!!!!
Surely we must have the wrong game here!Maybe so that rugby players won't swear at a referee but obviously its fine to gouge someones eyes out.
