Cristiano Ronaldo's departure is all but done and dusted after Real Madrid and Manchester United finalised the agreement for his transfer on Friday evening.

The Portuguese winger was the subject of a world record £80million offer from the Spanish club on Thursday 10 June. He has since been on holiday but a return to work with new employers now beckons, with the sale set to be completed on Wednesday 1 July.

United have made no further comment, other than to confirm the finalisation.

Isn't it just a bit funny that when Ronaldo was playing for Utd liverpool fans slated him as the most over-rated player in the world who went missing in the big games?
But now once he has left he is "irreplaceable".

This has all happened before with Beckham and RVN.
If Fergie thought Utd couldn't win the league without Ronaldo he would have point blank refused to sell him.

Football is a team game and the great managers like Fergie and Wenger know that and have proved over the years they know when its time to let players move on.

Seriously, make up your mind, in your username youre saying he's useless but now you're calling for a Utd downfall? :S

Your idiocy would be laughable if it wasn't so pathetic.

He moved on. And we need to move on too. I expect that the Premier League will become more balance and competitive.

Ronaldo has spent 6 years at Old Trafford, developing, maturing (ahem), and improving his all round game. In that time, he has won 3 titles, a European Cup, FA cup and also a runners up medal in the Champions League, not to mention being top scorer in England a few times also.
There comes a time when a player has to face new challenges, and if he can spend 6 years at Old Trafford then why not sign a 6 year deal with the biggest club in the World?
It's not to say he'll see it out, as i'm sure at 30 years old he'll not be as fast as he is now, but he'll still be a threat from set pieces and general attacking play!
I think if he sees 5 of those years through he'll do well, but after Madrid where is there realistically left to go? He can't climb the ladder any higher, so the only option is to climb back down...
I think he'll see out the contract, then head home to Lisbon.
He doesn't strike me as the Giggs/Scholes type to play on as long as possible, but who's to say he won't end up back at Man United? Let's be honest, Fergie won't be in charge in 6 years time, and somebody like Bruce/Hughes/Keane might take over and fancy signing him back?

As for Mr Aurelio/back pocket/Ronaldo/scouse lad...how can you predict a Man U downfall, when even at their weakest times over the years you've still come up 2nd/3rd/4th even 5th best?!
When Alonso and Masch leave for Spain, and Gerrard stops performing, it's gona be all down to Torres.
Man U, Chelsea and Arsenal will all strengthen this season, and even with Ronaldo gone, Man U will still have too much for Liverpool - after all, it's the insecurities of Benitez that contributed to most of Liverpool's failings last year!

Here is something that bothers me: how can ronaldo be worth more than newcastle????

He's worth more than Newcastle for reasons 5:

1) Newcastle are complete DUNG
2) They throw money at average, injured, has been, never were, egotistical nancy boys
3) Ronaldo almost single handedly won United the league last 2 seasons with his goals.
4) With Ronaldo you are guaranteed some sort of performance - same with Newcastle, although its normally rotten
and 5) Ronaldo IS the 2nd best player in the World after Messi, but Newcastle THINK they are a top 6 club for some reason...

Ronaldo knows he's great, Newcastle only THINK they are

"Ronaldo knows he's great"

Talk about stating the obvious.

Don't get me wrong- he is talented- but he's such an arrogant prat that it is very hard to like him at all. I hate him in particular.

And a 6-YEAR CONTRACT???????? That's alright if Real keep winning everything (which is probably unlikely), but if Real fall flat on their faces, then Ronaldo (Benzema and Kaka too, who have also signed 6-year contracts) may want out, and I am sure that he would want the £1bn release clause lowered to MUCH, MUCH less than that.

My goodness, Real must be confident if they are tying three of their newly bought star players to 6-year contracts then, when those players would be at their possible peak. Los Blancos must be hoping then that this won't be a repeat of Perez's three last years at Madrid in his last spell as president. Watch the fun and games happen.

PS: where are they getting all this cash from? Are all the Spanish taxes going to them or something???????????????? LOL

..he scored 42 goals in one season. Did Van Niselrooy ever do that?
---------------------------

Well actually he scored 44 goals in 02/03. Point of the matter is , RVN was replaced, and in time so will Ronaldo.
